Dallas County experienced growth each year for the past 12 years. • Madison County was the second fastest growing county at 3.4 percent and Benton County was third at 3.1 percent. • Pocahontas County’s decline in population from April 1, 2000 to July 1, 2002 was the largest in the state at (3.8 percent). In the midwest, only North Dakota (14.8 percent) experienced a higher percentage of its population 65 and older. • Florida (17.1), Pennsylvania (15.5), West Virginia (15.3) and North Dakota (14.8) were the only states with a higher percent of population 65 and older than Iowa. • Alaska showed the smallest percentage of its population 65 and older at 6.1 percent. 6
