Crestwood students lose respect for teachers
Editor:
As the elected officers of Crestwood
High School in Dearborn Heights, we
are relating to you the opinions and
feelings that have been communicated
to us by a majority of the Crestwood
student body.
It is our personally shared opinion
that the views of the students have
been suppressed bv the total news
media. We thank those people who
were concerned enough to speak out
in the form of editorials in support of
the students and their right to an education.
We now feel that a first-hand
editorial on the part of the students is
in order
The majority of Crest wood's student
body shares the feeling that they are
again being used as pawns in a political
game between the board of education
and the Michigan Education Association
and Crestwood Education Association
However, we do support the board's
decision to fire those teachers who blatantly
defied state law, contemptuously
disregarded the decisions
of a court of the State of Michigan
and onenly denied students their constituional
right to an education.
Becuase of these actions by members
of the CEA before the actual firings
and deplorable behavior of the
CEA and their supporters since that
time, students have no alternative left
but to vehemently demand that the
former teachers never be allowed to
return to a classroom in this district.
Because of the events that have
transpired since the beginning of this
disastrous school year, the respe^
needed to create an educational atmosphere
conducive to learning in a classroom
situation has been irretrivably
lost
We the students urge continued sup-
the Crestwood board cannot be forced
to revoke their decision due to pressure
applied by the intolerable actions
of the MEA and its various supporters
The main concern of all should be
the quality of education received by
students. Hie schools cannot be allowed
to become the battleground of
labor and management dissutes.
We urge our state legislators to act
in accordance with the request of the
people they represent. If they cannot
bring about the needed changes in the
laws of the state, then they must at
the very least insure a stable education
to allow our generation the opportunity
to be educated and to right
these unbelievable wrongs
