Michigan Council of Governments<br />

(SEMCOG), will be at 7:30<br />

p.m. on Jan. 16 in Ypsilanti Township<br />

Hall, 7200 S. Huron River Drive.<br />

Before to that hearing, detailed information<br />

on the plan will be available<br />

at a transportation display on<br />

view at Briarwood Mall Jan. 14 to 16<br />

A SEMCOG representative will answer<br />

questions and pass out maps and<br />

brochures detailing the plan from 10<br />

a.m. to 6 p.m. on those days. The<br />

mall is located at 1-94 and South State<br />

Road in Ann Arbor.<br />

DURING THE public hearing citizens<br />

will be able to express views or<br />

ask questions on the proposed plan by<br />

following these guidelines:<br />

All written statements will be accepted<br />

and entered into the record;<br />

Oral summaries of written statements<br />

should not exceed three minutes;<br />

Questions should be stated clearly<br />

and briefly;<br />

Questions should relate only to the<br />

proposed transportation plan.<br />

ANSWERING questions will be a<br />

panel including SEMCOG planning<br />

and policy persons and representatives<br />

of the Ann Arbor - Ypsilanti<br />

Urban Area Transportation Study<br />

Committee (UATS), the Michigan Department<br />

of State Highways and<br />

Transportation and the consulting<br />

firm of Barton-Aschman.<br />

Although other hearings were held<br />

during September and October last<br />

year, this hearing was delayed until<br />

completion of the UATS study which<br />

will be combined with the SEMCOG<br />

proposal for a total proposed transportation<br />

plan for the region.<br />

Transcripts from all hearings will<br />

be studied by SEMOOG's transportation<br />

Transportation Task Force,<br />

which could modify the proposed plan<br />

based on citizen input.<br />

FROM THERE the proposed plan<br />

will go to the SEMCOG Executive<br />

Committee for review and comment<br />

before going to the General Assembly,<br />

a body made up of member local<br />

elected officials, for adoption in June<br />

this year.<br />

An adopted regional plan, one of the<br />

requirements for obtaining funding,<br />

will expedite the release of state and<br />

federal funds to southeast Michigan<br />

communities for construction and development<br />

of roads, streets and public<br />

transit systems.<br />

SEMCOG, a voluntary, association<br />

of governmental units in the sevencounty<br />

region of Southeast Michigan,<br />

plans for transportation land use,<br />

sewer and water, criminal justice, recreation<br />

and open space development.<br />
