Raymond, 71, Hurley, was born March 13, 1941 in Elsey, to Dave and Mable Tucker Raymond and departed this life February 21, 2013 in his home. Billy had been a lifelong resident of the area and was a retired factory worker. He loved to fish, garden and canning the things that he had grown. Billy attended the Community Baptist Church in Hurley. He would lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it and enjoyed living the country life. Billy was one of seventeen children and was preceded by his parents; eleven siblings, Reitha Pendergrass, Eula Raymond, twin still born boys, Iva Tichenor Ragain, John Raymond, Katherine Raymond, Junior Raymond, Jessie Raymond, Dennis Raymond and Clifford Raymond. Survivors include his wife Phyllis; special heart adopted kids, Alicia Ralston, Bryceton and Collin, Jessica and Landon Flood, Juretta Tichenor and Austin Henry, they were his pride and joy; a brother, Leo Raymond of Burns, Oregon; four sisters, Gladys Reavis of Crane, Lela Bowling of Oroville, California, Betty Henry of Crane and Barbara Holliday of Clever. Graveside funeral services were Sunday, February 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in Short Cemetery Hurley, under the care of Westrip Funeral Home, Crane. Ryan A. Blankenship Ryan A. Blankenship, Branson West, son of Kennith and Cathy (Wilson) Blankenship, was born on April 08, 1980 in Belleville, IL and departed this life on February 18, 2013, at the age of 32. Ryan was a carpenter and had lived in the area for the past twenty one years coming from Shiloh, IL. Survivors include: brother, Aaron Blankenship of Branson West; paternal grandmother, Elaine Blankenship of Hecker, IL; four uncles; three aunts and a host of other friends. A funeral service was held at 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 22, 2013 in Stumpff Funeral Home-South, Kimberling City, with Bill Rogers officiating. Cremation will be under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home-South, Kimberling City, MO. A visitation was held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 22, 2013 in Stumpff Funeral Home-South, Kimberling City. Garry Lafferty Garry W. Lafferty, Galena, son of Robert and Doris (Fitzgerald) Lafferty, was born on September 13, 1951 in Ozark, and departed this life on February 24, 2013 in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, at the age of 61. Garry married Anne Scott on December 21, 1985 and they have celebrated twenty seven years together. He was a salesman and a lifelong resident of the area. Garry was preceded in death by his father and one sister. Survivors include: his mother, Doris Wood of Marshfield; wife, Anne Lafferty of Galena; one son, Brandon Lafferty of Nixa; one stepson, David Myers of Oldfield; two brothers Rick Lafferty of Ava, and Terry Lafferty of Marshfield; two sisters, Susie Clarke of Strafford, and Sheila Hatfield of California; two grandsons and a host of other relatives and friends. No services are planned. Cremation was under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home-South, Kimberling City. Jimmie J. “Bud” Hammonds Jimmie J. “Bud” Hammonds, Crane, son of Earl and Millie(Breckenridge) Hammonds, was born on May 11, 1938, in Barry County, and departed this life on February 20, 2013, in his home, at the age of 74. Bud was a lifelong resident and a retired farmer. He also owned and operated Hammonds Grocery in Wheelerville, for seventeen years. Bud’s family was the most important thing in his life. He was never too busy to stop and watch cartoons or to play with his grandchildren. Bud worshiped the ground that his wife Patsy walked on. It was stated that up till the day Bud stopped driving, his wife, Patsy always sat in the center of the truck next to him, just like teenagers. Survivors include: wife, Patsy Hammonds of Crane; four daughters, Sandy “Gail” Ellingsworth and husband, Dean of Aurora, Brenda Foster and husband, Joel of Kimberling City, Pam Payne and husband Tony of Crane, and Kim Payne and husband, Larry of Crane; one sister, Lillian Thomas of Crane; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013 in Manlove-Stumpff Funeral Home, Crane, with Hospice Compassus Chaplain Larry Kackley officiating. Burial was in Mars Hill Cemetery, Crane, under the direction of Manlove-Stumpff Funeral Home, Crane, MO. Fay Morris Fay Morris, Mt. Vernon, daughter of Carl and Mary (Jones) Corwin, was born on September 16, 1939 in Turney, and departed this life on February 22, 2013 in Lawrence County Manor, Mt. Vernon, at the age of 73. Fay was a homemaker who had lived in Mt. Vernon for the past 25 years coming from Reavisville. She was of the Baptist faith. Fay was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Morris and brother, Vincel Corwin. Survivors include: two sons, Robert Wayne Helvey of Fort Smith, AR and Richard Lee Morris of Galena, KS; one daughter, Rebecca Norvell of Galena, KS; three brothers, Donnie Corwin of Buffalo, Raymond Corwin of Springfield, and Harold Corwin of Wheatland; one sister, Fern Heard of Miller; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013 in Manlove-Stumpff Funeral Home, Crane, MO with Ryan Morris and Jay Hill officiating. Cremation was under the direction of Manlove-Stumpff Funeral Home, Crane. Obituaries Gail F. Stephenson Gail F. Stephenson, Branson West, son of Fred D and Veta B (Kent) Stephenson, was born on December 02, 1922, in Keokuk County, Iowa, and departed this life on February 19, 2013 in Cox Branson, Branson, at the age of 90. Gail was a retired salesman who had lived in the area for the past two years coming from Las Cruces, NM. Survivors include: his wife, Marilyn Stephenson of Branson West; two daughters, Lisa Healy of Auburn Hills, MI and Sheri Emery of Brighton, MI; one step-daughter, Nicole Rantz of Branson; seven grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. No services are planned. Cremation was under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home-South, Kimberling City. Ola May Merritt Smithwick Ola May Merritt Smithwick, 87, Crane, was born February 26, 1926 in Hurley, to Raymond and Alice Merritt and departed this life Tuesday, February 26, 2013 in Springfield. Ola May had been a lifelong resident of the area and a member of the First Baptist Church Crane. She had worked as a waitress and in the garment factory. Ola May enjoyed social activities and visiting with all her friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bethel and Donald Merritt; three sisters, Virginia Metcalf, Ruth Martin and Joann DeWitt; and a great grandaughter Ally Michele Smith. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Hilton and husband Bill of Springfield, Alice Johnson and husband Doug of Crane; a brother Junior Merritt of Crane; six grandchildren, Bryant Smith and wife Shana of Marionville, Leslie Hilton of Springfield, Michele Cook and husband Brad of Crane, Jason Hilton and wife Amanda of Springfield, Jessica Johnson of Crane and Jenny Garner and husband Scott of Crane; 15 great grandchildren; a special friend Stan McDonald of Monett, and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends. Funeral services will be Friday, March 1, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Crane. Burial will be in Crane Community Cemetery under the care of Westrip Funeral Home, Crane. Visitation will be Thursday, February 28, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Joyce Henderson Joyce Henderson, Kimberling City, daughter of James and Lucille (Hughes) Wyant, was born on November 7, 1934, in Kansas City, KS and departed this life on February 24, 2013 in Tablerock Healthcare, Kimberling City, at the age of 78. Joyce was a Realtor who had lived in the area since 1987. She was a member of the Kiwanis and was of the Methodist faith. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, James Perry Wyant and Donald Wyant. Survivors include: three daughters, Brenda Henderson of Mabank, TX, Janice Holloway of Waco, TX and Cheryl McConnell and husband, Steve of Lebanon; three brothers, Ronnie Wyant of Gladstone, Wayne Grazier of Loveland, CO and Harold Holt of Lebanon; two sisters, Ellen Wyant of Prescott, AZ and Dorothy Phillippie of Kansas City, KS; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2013 in Yocum Pond Cemetery, Reeds Spring, with Reverend Clif Crockett officiating. Mrs. Jo Scott, a Registered Nurse anesthetist, has collected many old time medical instruments and records. The instruments and treatments that a doctor used 100 years ago will be explained and shown. For those of you who wish for the good old days, this may change your minds. Anyone interested in the history of the area is welcome to attend. Our focus is not only on historical events, places and things; but also on family history. Many members have spent hours tracing their lineage and are happy to share tips and hints. We are always happy to receive pictures, local memorabilia, and hear stories. Come join us and share!
