Another inspirational novel
book is based on the life of a
city boy from Buffalo, NY, and
a Native American girl whose
lives would be intertwined in
spite of their social differences
and backgrounds. Mr. Posey
hopes that all readers will enjoy
“Historical Parallels with
Australia and New Zealand”
as she has travel there several
times. Although the parallels are
numerous-the Japanese bombed
Brisbane, Australia; New Zealand
experiences the Civil Rights
Movements of the 60’s; New
Zealand was having a civil war
Thursday, February 28, 2013 THE CRANE CHRONICLE/STONE COUNTY REPUBLICAN Page 9
about the same time as the US,
Kitty concentrated on three. The
three countries have been Allies
for years. All were in the Korean
Conflict because the UN Security
Council asked for help. New
Zealand and Australia participated
alongside Great Britain in the
Commonwealth Division of
Troops. After the conflict both
Australia and New Zealand
signed the ANZUS Treaty with
the U.S. Both entered Vietnam as
a result of that treaty. Countries
on the North American continent
benefited from God Rushes, as did
both New Zealand and Australia.
Miners traveled from the U.S. to
Australia then on to New Zealand
in hopes of finding their fortune.
In doing so, the areas that sold
supplies to the prospectors, and
areas near the mines were settled.
The economy of these areas were
kick-started as people, investment
and shipping were attracted. The
third parallel was “transportation”.
Criminals in England and Ireland
would receive a sentence of
“transportation” for both major
and petty crimes. Early sentences
sent convicts to the US and
Canada. This practice ended with
the Revolutionary War. After that
convicts were sent to Australia-
Sydney, Tasmania, Queensland,
and later Western Australia. This
practice ended in 1868.
Delicious refreshments
were served by Hostesses Lola
Clark and Cynthia Spalding as
members and guest enjoyed the
many books and photo albums
Mrs. Crider brought for “Show
and Tell.”
Looses Tanker
In Accident
The Southern Stone County
Fire Protection District is looking
for a tanker to borrow after theirs
was totaled in a crash Friday
night.
The tanker, which had 2,000
gallons of water in it when it
crashed, was on its way back
to the station after responding
to a house fire on Bread Tray
Mountain Road in Lampe when
it blew out a tire. The driver
overcorrected and the tanker
flipped on its side.
No one was injured in the
crash, according to SSCFPD
spokesman Eric Nielsen.
Chief David Gyger says the fire
district is reaching out to other
departments for a replacement
tanker until a permanent one can
be purchased.
