• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> established an Asia-Pacific Standards<br />

liaison group, led by <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> and <strong>GS1</strong> Japan for<br />

collaboration on the Global Standards Management<br />

Process (GSMP). At the first meet<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> November 10<br />

countries from the Asia-Pacific region participated.<br />

• <strong>GS1</strong> global launched the new Global Standards<br />

Development Process <strong>in</strong> April <strong>2010</strong>.<br />

• <strong>GS1</strong> XML Messag<strong>in</strong>g Standard cont<strong>in</strong>ued to be a strong<br />

standard for <strong>GS1</strong> eCom with ongo<strong>in</strong>g development<br />

alongside exist<strong>in</strong>g EDI Messag<strong>in</strong>g standards.<br />

• This year a total of 30 students from RMIT and Deak<strong>in</strong><br />

universities completed the <strong>GS1</strong> Certificate.<br />

• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> and the University of Melbourne were<br />

awarded an <strong>Australia</strong>n Research Council grant of<br />

$220,000 over two years to identify and quantify<br />

the factors <strong>in</strong>fluenc<strong>in</strong>g the adoption of supply cha<strong>in</strong><br />

technology standards <strong>in</strong> <strong>Australia</strong>.<br />

• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> was actively <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> the formation of<br />

the Alliance for Supply Cha<strong>in</strong> Innovation, a consortium<br />

of academic and research centres to benefit supply cha<strong>in</strong><br />

and logistics research for <strong>in</strong>dustry and governments.<br />

• In <strong>2010</strong> <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> cont<strong>in</strong>ued to improve its<br />

communications with members, produc<strong>in</strong>g more than<br />

80 items of Market<strong>in</strong>g collateral to expla<strong>in</strong> how the <strong>GS1</strong><br />

standards and services can be used by bus<strong>in</strong>esses. <strong>GS1</strong><br />

<strong>Australia</strong> also kept the media <strong>in</strong>formed about new<br />

services be<strong>in</strong>g developed us<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>GS1</strong> standards result<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>in</strong> more than 150 media articles about <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong>.<br />

• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> worked with the <strong>in</strong>dustry directories<br />

Industry Search and Ferret.com to publish news and<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation about <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong>’s products and services<br />

<strong>in</strong> an easily searchable onl<strong>in</strong>e format.<br />

• This year <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> cont<strong>in</strong>ued to work closely with<br />

small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs), establish<strong>in</strong>g a SME<br />

eNewsletter focused on issues and case<br />

studies of <strong>in</strong>terest to SMEs.<br />

• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> staff exhibited or addressed more than<br />

70 events both overseas and <strong>in</strong> <strong>Australia</strong>.<br />

• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> staff volunteered their time with a range<br />

of community organisations and charities throughout<br />

the year. <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> cont<strong>in</strong>ues to make available bar<br />

code numbers and product descriptions free of charge<br />

to the charity Visual Independence and raised funds<br />

to donate five talk<strong>in</strong>g bar code scanners to bl<strong>in</strong>d and<br />

vision-impaired <strong>Australia</strong>ns through the Visual<br />

Independence grants program.<br />
