Ahead<br />
• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> will be work<strong>in</strong>g closely with the<br />
<strong>Australia</strong>n Defence Force (ADF) to assess the<br />
use of <strong>GS1</strong> Identification Keys and data<br />
synchronisation <strong>in</strong> the Defence supply cha<strong>in</strong>.<br />
• Our Industry Engagement team will explore<br />
opportunities <strong>in</strong> the resources and utilities sector<br />
<strong>in</strong> the areas of asset identification and track<strong>in</strong>g as<br />
well as cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g to support active sectors to<br />
expand their use of the <strong>GS1</strong> System and<br />
<strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> services.<br />
• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> will assist suppliers <strong>in</strong> meet<strong>in</strong>g new<br />
retailer requirements for number<strong>in</strong>g and bar cod<strong>in</strong>g<br />
<strong>in</strong> the hardware sector.<br />
• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> will be work<strong>in</strong>g to assist suppliers<br />
and retailers to prepare for the 1 January 2014<br />
<strong>in</strong>troduction of <strong>GS1</strong> DataBar.<br />
• In the office supplies sector there will be a full<br />
roll-out of <strong>GS1</strong>net to suppliers.<br />
• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> will assist Woolworths’ suppliers<br />
with data synchronisation via <strong>GS1</strong>net from<br />
February 2011.<br />
• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> will launch a new, more user-friendly<br />
portal to access <strong>GS1</strong>net <strong>in</strong> July 2011. This <strong>in</strong>itiative<br />
is targeted at small-to-medium bus<strong>in</strong>esses currently<br />
access<strong>in</strong>g <strong>GS1</strong>net via the <strong>in</strong>ternet or through the<br />
Browser Template.<br />
• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> will conduct research <strong>in</strong>to the use<br />
of social networks and is look<strong>in</strong>g to implement<br />
a Social Media strategy <strong>in</strong> 2011.<br />
• Dur<strong>in</strong>g 2011 <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> will conduct research <strong>in</strong>to<br />
consumers’ views of trusted product <strong>in</strong>formation and<br />
what sort of data consumers would want when mak<strong>in</strong>g<br />
healthy lifestyle choices when purchas<strong>in</strong>g supermarket<br />
items as part of the MobileCom B2C <strong>in</strong>itiative.<br />
• 2011 will see the launch of the first <strong>in</strong>dustry-endorsed<br />
iPhone based application to deliver trusted product<br />
<strong>in</strong>formation to consumers <strong>in</strong> real time. <strong>GS1</strong> GoScan<br />
will revolutionise the way product compositional<br />
<strong>in</strong>formation is accessed by consumers <strong>in</strong> <strong>Australia</strong>.<br />
• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> and Victoria University will undertake<br />
the second phase of a study <strong>in</strong> assistance of the<br />
management of chronic disease via a mobile-phoneaccessed<br />
nutritional database.<br />
• The Product Information Form solution will be<br />
launched <strong>in</strong> 2011 <strong>in</strong> collaboration with the AFGC.<br />
This new solution will deliver an <strong>in</strong>dustry standard<br />
for the exchange of detail product compositional<br />
data between raw material suppliers and food<br />
manufactur<strong>in</strong>g bus<strong>in</strong>esses, remov<strong>in</strong>g duplication<br />
and deliver<strong>in</strong>g great benefits to the <strong>in</strong>dustry<br />
• <strong>GS1</strong> Recallnet – <strong>Australia</strong>’s whole-of-<strong>in</strong>dustry recall<br />
and withdrawal notification management solution will<br />
be launched to the <strong>in</strong>dustry <strong>in</strong> 2011. This standardsbased<br />
notification system will streaml<strong>in</strong>e product recall<br />
notifications and is endorsed by all major retailers,<br />
lead<strong>in</strong>g manufactures, the AFGC and is also supported<br />
by Food Standards <strong>Australia</strong> and New Zealand and the<br />
<strong>Australia</strong>n Competition and Consumer Commission.<br />
• Work will cont<strong>in</strong>ue with the healthcare sector <strong>in</strong><br />
def<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g recall process and data requirements and<br />
pilot<strong>in</strong>g <strong>GS1</strong> Recallnet with<strong>in</strong> this sector with a launch<br />
planned <strong>in</strong> late 2011.<br />
• In 2011 <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> will <strong>in</strong>troduce a services-only<br />
membership for users of <strong>GS1</strong> Recallnet and<br />
<strong>GS1</strong> Locatenet to assist <strong>in</strong>dustry adoption.<br />
• In the year ahead <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> will offer more flexible<br />
tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g to enable time-poor members to attend half-day<br />
sessions <strong>in</strong>stead of hav<strong>in</strong>g to commit a full day to<br />
tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g.<br />
• In February 2011 <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> will launch <strong>GS1</strong> Works,<br />
a state-of-the-art multimedia learn<strong>in</strong>g platform located<br />
with the <strong>GS1</strong> Supply Cha<strong>in</strong> Knowledge Centre.<br />
• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong>’s Professional Services team faces a period<br />
of excit<strong>in</strong>g growth as <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> launches new<br />
services, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g data quality and traceability, and<br />
engages with exisit<strong>in</strong>g and emerg<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dustry sectors.<br />
• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> will cont<strong>in</strong>ue to work closely with<br />
small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) to provide useful<br />
<strong>in</strong>formation, tips, ideas and advice from lead<strong>in</strong>g SME<br />
experts through one of <strong>Australia</strong>’s lead<strong>in</strong>g small<br />
bus<strong>in</strong>ess TV shows.<br />
• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> will cont<strong>in</strong>ue to actively participate at all<br />
levels <strong>in</strong> <strong>GS1</strong> Global <strong>in</strong>itiatives, <strong>in</strong> particular visibility,<br />
data quality and mobile commerce.<br />
• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> will <strong>in</strong>itiate an onl<strong>in</strong>e project look<strong>in</strong>g to<br />
offer members self-service and improved onl<strong>in</strong>e access<br />
to <strong>in</strong>formation.<br />
