• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> also has worked closely with healthcare<br />

stakeholders <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g health jurisdictions,<br />

manufacturers, Medic<strong>in</strong>es <strong>Australia</strong>, the Therapeutic<br />

Goods Adm<strong>in</strong>istration (TGA), NEHTA and the<br />

<strong>Australia</strong>n Competition and Consumer Commission<br />

(ACCC) <strong>in</strong> gather<strong>in</strong>g the requirements to extend the<br />

<strong>GS1</strong> Recallnet service to the healthcare sector.<br />

• In <strong>2010</strong> <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> also collaborated with Victoria<br />

University on a Smartphone application that scans<br />

products’ bar codes and delivers nutritional <strong>in</strong>formation<br />

to <strong>in</strong>dividual consumers.<br />

• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> furthered this work with Deak<strong>in</strong><br />

University and Nestlé <strong>Australia</strong> successfully pilot<strong>in</strong>g a<br />

proof-of-concept iPhone application, called GoScan,<br />

that scans products’ bar codes and delivers allergen<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation to the consumer. The GoScan application<br />

sources product data from a database l<strong>in</strong>ked to <strong>GS1</strong>net<br />

which is sourced from the Nestlé Nutribank database.<br />

• Work<strong>in</strong>g with Nestlé <strong>Australia</strong>, <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> expanded<br />

the iPhone application (<strong>GS1</strong> GoScan) to other types of<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation, such as country of orig<strong>in</strong>, nutritional data,<br />

general product details and susta<strong>in</strong>ability <strong>in</strong>formation.<br />

• The <strong>GS1</strong> GoScan application was piloted by Anaphylaxis<br />

<strong>Australia</strong> and discussions are under way with the<br />

Coeliac Society.<br />

• This GoScan application is also the basis for work be<strong>in</strong>g<br />

undertaken by the <strong>GS1</strong>/AFGC Extended Labell<strong>in</strong>g work<br />

group. This group, compris<strong>in</strong>g the AFGC, manufacturers<br />

and retailers, is collaborat<strong>in</strong>g to develop an <strong>in</strong>dustry-endorsed<br />

version of <strong>GS1</strong> GoScan to deliver trusted and approved<br />

product compositional <strong>in</strong>formation to consumers. The<br />

goal is to launch the application to the market <strong>in</strong> 2011.<br />

• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> participated <strong>in</strong> the <strong>GS1</strong> MobileCom Day<br />

<strong>in</strong> June <strong>2010</strong>, which was one of 35 <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>in</strong>itiatives<br />

presented from around the world.<br />

• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> and the AFGC started a jo<strong>in</strong>t program to<br />

develop the next generation of the Product Information<br />

Form (PIF). This program will see the launch of a web<br />

version of the application together with XML standards<br />

that will become the <strong>in</strong>dustry standard for product<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation <strong>in</strong> the upstream sector.<br />

• <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> became a full Associate Member of the<br />

AFGC and a member of the Consumer Goods Forum.<br />

• Based on the highly successful <strong>GS1</strong> UK Grocery Data<br />

Crunch (Data Quality) Report, <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> <strong>in</strong>itiated<br />

a similar project for both the grocery and hardware<br />

sectors locally. Data analysis was completed this year<br />

and a f<strong>in</strong>al report will be published <strong>in</strong> early 2011.<br />

• This year <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> participated <strong>in</strong> an Efficient<br />

Consumer Response Australasia (ECRA) work<strong>in</strong>g group<br />

to <strong>in</strong>vestigate logistics labell<strong>in</strong>g and related issues <strong>in</strong><br />

the retail sector. <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> worked closely with the<br />

major grocery retailers to help suppliers improve their<br />

pallet labell<strong>in</strong>g us<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>GS1</strong> standards and has worked<br />

with <strong>in</strong>dustry to develop an ECRA <strong>in</strong>dustry toolkit. This<br />

<strong>in</strong>cludes a state-of-the-art video tutorial on pallet label<br />

location. <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> launched a logistics-labell<strong>in</strong>g<br />

assessment service to help members improve their<br />

pallet-labell<strong>in</strong>g processes.<br />

• A total of more than 500 people attended <strong>GS1</strong><br />

<strong>Australia</strong>’s Supply Cha<strong>in</strong> Week sessions <strong>in</strong> March<br />

and September held <strong>in</strong> Sydney, Melbourne and<br />

Brisbane. Speakers <strong>in</strong>cluded representatives from<br />

the hardware, rural, automotive, healthcare,<br />

consumer electronics, grocery and liquor sectors.<br />

Pallet labell<strong>in</strong>g was a major focus of the sessions.<br />

• The Electronic Meat Transfer Certificate (EMTC) for the<br />

<strong>Australia</strong>n red meat <strong>in</strong>dustry has been upgraded to<br />

current <strong>GS1</strong> eMessag<strong>in</strong>g standards and made available<br />

for <strong>in</strong>dustry use. This has the potential to <strong>in</strong>troduce<br />

sav<strong>in</strong>gs of more $1 million to the <strong>in</strong>dustry.<br />

• The consumer electronics sector has worked with<br />

<strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> to be ready for a data synchronisation<br />

pilot us<strong>in</strong>g <strong>GS1</strong>net <strong>in</strong> the first quarter of 2011. The<br />

Consumer Electronics Work<strong>in</strong>g Action Group (CEWAG)<br />

has completed a GDSN-compliant data model to make<br />

this possible.<br />

• In <strong>2010</strong> the Office Supplies <strong>GS1</strong> Action Group (OSGAG)<br />

issued a call to action to all suppliers <strong>in</strong> the sector to<br />

engage with <strong>GS1</strong>net. This followed a successful data<br />

synchronisation pilot via <strong>GS1</strong>net by suppliers <strong>Australia</strong>n<br />

Office, Pelikan Artl<strong>in</strong>e, ACCO <strong>Australia</strong> and Dalton<br />

Office and Officeworks.<br />

• The <strong>Australia</strong>n Defence Force (ADF) signed <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong>’s<br />

proposal to evaluate the ADF’s use of <strong>GS1</strong>net to<br />

synchronise <strong>in</strong>formation with suppliers commenc<strong>in</strong>g<br />

with their healthcare supply cha<strong>in</strong>. The ADF is also<br />

work<strong>in</strong>g with <strong>GS1</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> to implement <strong>GS1</strong> item<br />

identification standards.<br />
