Centre School with Miss Tobey devoting her mornings
to the Academy and afternoons at the Centre School. Mrs.
Coombs and Mrs. Naves are in charge of Music and Art
respectively.
We have five new teachers in Hampton—three replacing
teachers and two additional teachers. Miss Velna
Adams is instructor in the Junior High School. She is a
graduate of Bates College in the class of 1941. Her subjects
are those formerly taught by Stuart Carter who left
us to take the principalship of the North Hampton Center
School. Miss Arlene Waite replaces Mrs. Dorothea Stevens
in the Academy. She is a graduate of Worcester
Teachers College and a teacher of two years' experience.
Our Commercial teachers is Miss Lucille Smith. She has
taught for two years and is a member of the Plymouth
Teachers College, Class of 1939, graduating from the
commercial teacher course. Miss Ruth Wight is the teacher
of French and Latin, a graduate of Bates College with
five years' teaching experience in the State of Maine. Mr,
Forrest Parker, a Keene Teachers' College graduate, has
charge of the new Mechanic Arts work, which the School
Board established this year as explained in the School
District Meeting of March 1941. There has been no
change in the personnel of the grade teachers. These are
the people fundamentally responsible, not only for the
work of their grades, but for the success of the pupils in
their later school life. It is all important that skillful and
experienced teachers meet the child during the years in
which first foundations of education are being laid.
