uranium concentration, occurred via surface complexation. Long-term retention occurs through the transformation of sorbed apatite to chernikovite. Additionally, Thakur et al. (2005) recently reported the sequestration of uranium to hydroxyapatite at pH = 2 to 8 in 0.001 to 1.0 M NaClO 4 .
