Water Management in Nepal A team led by Hatch provided long-term multidisciplinary advisory services to support and strengthen the performance and management of water and energy institutions in Nepal. Subsequently, the Hatch team provided technical assistance to the Government of Nepal on issues of water management and was asked to propose short-term remedies for water shortages in the Kathmandu Valley, the fastest growing region in the country. Short-term recommendations focused on more effective use of surface and groundwater resources, which coupled with needed distribution system improvements, would alleviate water supply problems until a long-term inter-basin transfer scheme is implemented. < Managed development of Nepal's water resources will improve living conditions Strategy & execution for Volta River optimization The Volta River Authority of Ghana asked Hatch for an optimum operations strategy for their large Akosombo and Kpong hydro-generating stations, and for the provision of software tools to execute the strategy. VRA supplies the West African Power Pool with a hydro– thermal mix of generating resources. VRA ensures reliable delivery of power and energy to the pool at the least cost. Hatch will supply its proprietary Vista DSS software modules to VRA, and integrate them with the VRA databases, which in turn will provide increased efficiencies in VRA’s hydroelectric production. The 160-MW Kpong hydroelectric plant's output is scheduled by Vista DSS SPILLWAY GATES RELIABILITY UPGRADES, CANADA BC Hydro is implementing a program to improve spillway gate reliability, flood-handling capabilities and public safety. Hatch completed the reliability improvement project’s investigation and definition phases. The scope for the capital works will follow from the recommendations of the definition studies. The implementation will provide the final design and assistance with contract procurement, construction inspection and management for the Cheakamus Dam near Whistler, and the Terzaghi and Seton dams near Lillooet, British Columbia, Canada. < BC Hydro will implement spillway gates improvements 7
