1.2 Project sites
Bidoup Nui Ba National Park
Bidoup Nui Ba National Park was established under Decision 1240/QD-TTg issued on 19
November 2004 by Prime Minister regarding “Change Bidoup Nui Ba Nature Reserve into
Bidoup Nui Ba National Park”. Bidoup Nui Ba National Park is now under direct
management of Lam Dong Provincial Peoples Committee. A forest management board was
established in 1986 and this became the national park management board in 2004.
The national park is located within the administrative area of Lac Duong District and a part of
Dam Rong District, Lam Dong Province. It is located approximately 50 km distance from Da
Lat city on Provincial Route 723. The national park will become part of the administrative
area of Da Lat City when Da Lat becomes an official city under the central Government.
Bidoup Nui Ba National Park covers five communes and one town of Lac Duong district,
namely Lat, Da Sar, Da Chais, Da Nhim and Dung K’No, Lac Duong town and small part of
Da Tong Commune in Dam Rong District.
The national park has the following stated objectives:
• Conserve forest ecosystems restricted in distribution to the local area which are
characterised by a subtropical climate, high mountains and endemic, rare and valuable
faunal and floral elements. In combination with adjacent national parks and nature
reserves this makes for a large land area set aside for nature conservation and makes a
significant contribution to conservation in the Da Lat Plateau, Southern Plateau, and
South Central region of Vietnam;
• Contribute to the protection of the watershed of the Dong Nai and Srepok Rivers and
lakes, which serve the socioeconomic activities of Lam Dong Province, the Southern
Plateau, the south-east of Vietnam and the coastal region of south-central Vietnam;
• Conserve primary forest landscapes to embellish and develop the native cultural
characteristics of Da Lat City, provide a location for the development of ecotourism,
scientific research and environmental education and reinforce defence security in Lam
Dong Province and the central highlands.
Bidoup Nui Ba National Park supports a large area of forested land, of which most is
coniferous or mixed coniferous and broadleaved evergreen forest (see Table 2).
