The amount of benefit is a maximum of $500. Utilities
must be paid in full to be eligible for the grant. Proof of
age is required for first time applicants. Applications
must be made directly to the City of Whitehorse on or
after October 15 of each year but no later than December
31 st in the year for which the grant is requested.
Homeowners Grant
The Homeowners Grant is a grant for Yukon residents
who own and occupy their own home.
If you, or the co-owner are 65 years of age or older, the
grant amount is equivalent to 75% of the general taxes to
a maximum of $500 per household.
If you or the co-owner are under 65 years of age, the
grant amount is equivalent to 50% of the general taxes to
a maximum of $450 per household.
In order to qualify for the Home Owner’s Grant you
must:
• Own and occupy your residence since January 1 st ,
or 184 days of the current property tax year (Jan 1 st
to Dec 31 st ).
• Have your property taxes paid in full.
There are a number of ways to receive the grant and are
as follows:
• If you pay your own taxes, the grant may be
credited at the time the taxes are paid.
• If a mortgage company pays your taxes, the grant
may be credited at the time the taxes are paid. This
application must be submitted by June 10 th of the
current year.
• If you or your mortgage company pay the taxes and
you wish to receive your Home Owner’s Grant
cheque, you are required to submit your application
requesting the cheque be forwarded to you.
