ACCESSORY USE. A use which is located on the same lot on which the principal building or use is situated and which is reasonably necessary, incidental and subordinate to the conduct of the principal use when permitted by district regulations. ACREAGE. Any tract or parcel of land having an area of one acre or more which has not been subdivided by meets and bounds or platted. 1998 S-2
Zoning Code 225 AIRPORT HAZARD AREA. "Airport Hazard" means any structure, object of natural growth, or use of land, which obstructs air space required for the flight of aircraft or restricted landing area or is otherwise hazardous to such landing and take off. AIRPORT IMPACT AREA. Any area undeveloped at the time of the adoption of an airport zone whose development would be incompatible with associated airport environmental impact. ALLEY. A public way, not more than 30 feet wide, which affords only a secondary means of access to abutting property. AQUIFER. A sub-surface water bearing strata which has a recharge area which may be the watershed for ground water or a distant geological formation for deep water-bearing strata. ATTIC. A space beneath the roof and above rooms in a dwelling or building used for storage not for habitation. AUTOMOBILE REPAIR, MAJOR. Engine rebuilding or major reconditioning of worn or damaged motor vehicles or trailers; collision service, including body, frame or fender straightening or repair; and, overall painting of vehicles. AUTOMOBILE WRECKING YARD. Any place where one or more motor vehicles, not stored in running condition, or parts thereof, are stored in the open for periods exceeding 30 days, or any land, building or structure used for wrecking or storing of such motor vehicle or parts thereof: and including any used farm vehicles or farm machinery or parts thereof, stored in the open and not being restored to operating condition; and including the commercial salvaging of any other goods, appliances, articles or merchandise. BASEMENT. A story partially or wholly underground, where more than one-half of its height is above the average ground elevation, a basement shall be counted as a story for purposes of height measurement. BLOCK. A tract of land bounded by streets or, in lieu of a street or streets, by public parks, cemeteries, railroad rights-of-way, shorelines of meandering lakes, the centerlines of other lakes and streams or a corporate line of the village. BOARDING HOUSE. A building other than a hotel or restaurant where meals are provided for compensation to three or more persons, but not to more than 12, who are not members of the keeper's family.
