KAHRAMAA Smart Water Network Seminar Professional History Took over role as design project manager with a brief to integrate management of a scheme being run virtually independently by discipline, re-establish budgets, deliver the scheme according to the plan and introduce commercial awareness to the design team. Integrated discipline design programmes (mechanical, electrical and civil), and integrated the final design programme into the construction plan, in the consultation with the contractor, Laing Utilities. Reset budgets and monitored progress and scope adherence closely over a period of several months to ensure both the legitimacy of time booked to project and to control tendencies to depart from the scope without client instruction. Returned project to time and budget with substantial gainshare payments resulting from cost savings developed through designer/contractor co-operation. 1997 - 1998 - Ganol Wastewater Treatment Works, UK: Project manager and engineering designer for a major (£14 million) wastewater treatment works on a greenfield site, with the scope of work including procurement and contract management of individual plant contracts. The treatment process includes grit removal, screening to 6mm, biological treatment in sequencing batch reactor (SBR) units, and ultraviolet (UV) disinfection. Sludge treatment is by centrifuge and drier, with the dried product being pelletized. The treatment works serves the Conwy area of North Wales, and is designed to accommodate a flow to treatment of 500l/s, with an additional 350l/s being passed to storm. The site is subjected to particularly onerous planning conditions aesthetically, and all processes are housed within structures designed to be consistent architecturally with the nearby Snowdonia National Park. The designs include for the installation of a state of the art odour control system. The project management role required extensive co-ordination of specialist inputs, both from within the Hyder organisation, and with external specialist designers and suppliers, as well as the management of the design team to deliver a quality product to time and well below budget. The project was managed from concept to commissioned within 20 months, (an extremely short timescale for such a significant WWTW) partly as a result of close designer/contractor cooperation which focussed design effort to deliver on a ‘just-in-time’ basis. 1992 - 1997 Acer Consulting Limited (Now Hyder Consulting) – Project Manager/Engineer, Senior Engineer Design Management of a number of clean and waste water schemes from inception to completion. All projects were delivered below capital budget and above profit plan for consulting services. Senior engineer and then project manager working in a technical capacity on a number of schemes both in the UK and Internationally. Schemes ranged from water treatment and distribution through wastewater and sludge collection and treatment, and included major cross country gas pipeline design as well as power station and marine works. KAHRAMAA Smart Water Network Seminar Professional History 1985 - 1992 British Waterways – Engineer Neil was employed by British Waterways, where he gained technical experience both in the design and in the site supervision of a number of heritage projects including dams and impounding reservoirs, tunnels, aqueducts, geotechnical remediation and inland waterway and marine structures. 1981 - 1985 John Taylor and Sons (now Hyder Consulting) – Graduate Engineer Employed by former Hyder Company John Taylor and Sons as a graduate engineer on a number of design and site supervision projects in the UK and in the Middle East. Experience was gained in the design of clean and dirty water treatment works, tunnels, sea outfalls, sewerage and water blending and distribution facilities. Neil Kemble 5/5
