50 Years
?
Can you remember these four men wl\o once
we •• in our midst?
trained him for our needs. Don Ford successfull
y completed the required learning
and is now m:achiniSI - 0," Congratulations.
Don. After this presentation we enjoyed the
final cocktail. We then had dinner of our
choice with entertainment by comedian
FO$tcr Brooks. Many retirees were there,
some rc:~nlly retired and some: as long ago
as eight years, namely Mary Gillespie. Remember
Mary?
Dennie Jordon became a rather of a
IO-pound son, Jdfry Alan; Ron Salvitore
became a father of an eight·pound daughter,
Stacey; mothers. babies, and fathers doing
fine.
lalely I have heard TC'marks from memo
bers that too much thou£ht has becn given
to retirees: the wages and benefits are im·
porlant for the immediate president in this
preM:nt society of ours, the ultimate g031
of each worler is relin:'ment with adequate
provisions for at least ~ o rr y. fre e and com·
fortable remaining days. Therefore, we
should think: just as much of our future as
of the present. Another thought·provoking
item is the Scanlon plnn: a lot of pros and
cons and bandied around this pl:'n, that
our firm is introducing in a subtle matter
for us to consider perhaps in the fUIOTe
maybe e\'en sooner.
Cor:dolences were olTered to union officer
Andy Potosk:y whose mother died. She was
past 80 years old. Gail Schillinger's father
underwent surgery and is fine. He is an·
other octogenarian. It was nice to read of
one of our retirees, 011 Schreiber. Remem·
6. 1976, we held our ;mnual Chrhtmas
parly at the Fdison C lub in Maumee, Ohio.
Ag:.in this year the wives were in"ited as
were the retirees. Brother Abbott, "ho is
retired, drove over 200 miles to attend. he
now resides in Monticello. Indiana. His son·
in·law, a former Edison employee, came
along to drive.
We had a rea l good turnout, especially
from Davis Besse, since they had to drive
abou t 50 miles or more round trip. The
department supervisors were also invited.
We wish to thank all the members who (
helped make this year's party a success; a
good time was had by all, with plenlY to cal
and drink. Also a little game of eards was
pla)·ed.
On October 22. 1976, Brother Willis
WhelStone was married to Barbara Rodri.
guez at lhe United Methodist Church on
Oakdale Avenue in Toledo. A reception
followed at Mel Bcrmans Restaurant on
Walbridge Road in Northwood. The couple
will live in Oak Harbor. Ohio. (Mrs. Whet.
stone's father is a mainlenam;e man at the
Acme Stalion.) We all extend ollr best
wishes to the newly"eds.
In our last letter we reported an incident
which occurred at Davis Besse. Brother Jim
Break. was Struck: by 13,800 \'01ls "hile
work:ing in switch gear room "B" and was
aided by some of our members along with
his co-workers: at this time we are happy
to report Brother Break is bad: on the job,
and doing fine.
