Rail Tour News
THE WANSBECK - Sat. 30 th March 2013 by Ray Smith:
This rail tour was operated in
top & tail mode by K4 2-6-0
61994 ‘The Great Marquess’
and K1 2-6-0 62005 (both
tenders facing the coaches),
running as 1Z62 Newcastle -
North Blyth, 1Z64 North Blyth -
Crag Hall, 1Z66 Crag Hall -
Saltburn and 1Z68 Saltburn -
Newcastle.
61994 leading at Marcheys House Junction at 11.47
(aka Sleekburn Triangle)
With 61994 leading to start
with, after North Blyth the train
turned on the Marcheys House
Junction known as Sleekburn
triangle and once again 62005
was leading.
With the North Sea and offshore wind turbines
in the background, 62005 waits to return
back to Newcastle, then on to Saltburn
at 12.22 from North Blyth
52F, North and South Blyth had an allocation of K1s in the 1960s. I have a 52K, Consett shedplate
that was given to me by a fitter when 62022 was transferred to Blyth!
