Sekoli. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the students,
parents and staff of Indian Community School for all of your support and
assistance these past almost four months as I transitioned into my new role as the
Principal.
It has been an incredible experience to date and I appreciate everything so many
of you have done to assist me and Indian Community School as a whole.
I am looking forward to 2011 and I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone
happy holidays and a healthy new year. Hoyan!

Winter Outerwear Drive
Do you have any gently used winter clothing that your child has out grown and no
longer needs? Please consider donating them to another child in need. We are
collecting gently used winter clothing such as coats, boots, mittens and snow pants
that families may no longer need. (No hats or scarves please) Items donated will
be given to families in the community who may need assistance obtaining these
items for their children. If they are in need of cleaning we will take care of this.
Items may be dropped off at the Indian Community School Family Resource
Center. If you require alternative forms of getting these items to us please call the
Family Resource Center at 414-525-6117 and we will be happy to assist you.

From time to time in the ICS Weekly Report, we are going to “spotlight” some
sections of the 2010-2011 Parent Student Handbook. This is being done so we all
can support and work together in a partner relationship.

STUDENT TRANSPORTATION POLICY
Excerpt from Page 52
The cost to the parent/guardian for a second delivery attempt is the amount ICS is
charged by the bus company which changes from year-to-year (e.g., $24 through
6/2010).
If the child must be returned to ICS, an additional fee of $20 will be charged by ICS
for its initial administrative costs.
Regardless as to whether a student is returned to ICS by the Bus Company or whether a
student is not picked up by 3:40 p.m. (or by 12:50 p.m. on a scheduled half day), the
charges of supervising a student in such circumstances is $10 for any portion of a ½
hour that the child remains at ICS
During a school year, if fees are assessed to a parent/guardian for violations of this
policy the fees are due immediately unless the Educational Administration agrees to
a payment plan not to exceed ninety (90) days. Failure to timely pay such fees
will result in de-enrollment.
If a payment plan permits any or all of such payments to be made after the end of
a school year, failure to abide by the exact terms of the payment plan during
the summer break will result in the student’s ineligibility for enrollment at ICS
during the next school year.
Eighth grade students will be precluded from participating in the eighth grade
class trip if any amount of money is owed for violations of this policy.

“Family Camp Opportunity”
Once again the Indian Community School has the opportunity to partner with
“Children’s Outing Association to offer a “Family Camp” to our ICS families. This
camp will be held August, 2011 at Camp Helen Brachman in Almond, Wisconsin.
Family camp has been very successful the past three years and the number of families
wishing to participate is growing each year. We are attempting to recruit new families
for this next session.
This camp will be an opportunity for the entire family to get away from the normal
worries for a few days. There will be some great family activities as well as some age
separated lessons and fun time. Come to camp, sit around the campfire, take a nature
walk, do some crafts, make new friends, participate in a sweatlodge and cultural
teachings and renew your family.
There is a minimal fee per family, however, with successful fundraising efforts families
could be able to attend free.
Although August seems so far away it is important we begin to identify families who
wish to participate early on. This will allow those families wishing to participate an
opportunity to help with fundraising efforts.
Family camp has been very successful the past three years and the number of families
wishing to participate is growing each year. We are attempting to recruit new families
as we would like to offer this opportunity to as many families as possible.
If you are interested in attending please contact Cindy Janechek as soon as possible.
Please note that families who have not attended camp in past years will be given priority
over families who have attended. If you have attended in the past and wish to go again,
please let us know as well. We will fill spots up with returning families on a first come
first serve basis starting with families who have went one year, then those who have
gone twice and finally with families who have gone all three.

The Milwaukee Indian Education Committee (M.I.E.C.) is in search of motivated
people that would like to become part of a successful and growing organization.
Agency representatives, individual members, and volunteers are needed.
The M.I.E.C. offers programs for the American Indian Community including: The All
City Graduation, The School Supplies Program and Scholarships for students
pursuing higher education.
Committee meetings are held monthly from 12:00-2:00 and are held at the Gerald
Ignace Indian Health Center, 1711 S. 11 th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53204. The next
meeting is scheduled for December 14 th at noon. Please come and join us to learn
more about how you can help your community.

Breakfast with Santa a huge success!!
Thank you to all of our volunteers!!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who volunteered their time on
Saturday December 11, 2010 to help make the Breakfast with Santa/Craft Fair a huge
success. This year we opened up this event to the community and we had a very good
turnout. We also had over 25 craft booths and each one stated they would return again.
We were able to serve about 400 people from the school and community. All in all we
raised about $2500 which went to support the 8 th grade trip to Washington DC and the
Family Resource Center programming.
So thank you to the following:
First of all I want to thank my FRC staff Jackie Feavel, Pamela Ninham and Heather
Keyes (VISTA) for all their hard work in planning and preparing for this event. They
spent many hours working on this to make sure it was a success.
Thank you to Jolene Decora for all her hard work and time spent working on the craft fair
and working with all the vendors.
Thank you to ICS Jim Laux and the facilities department for everything they did to support
this event such as setting up tables, getting things we needed for the venders, having extra
help here for us on the day of event and for their assistance with set up and cleanup.
A thank you goes to Len Komblevicz aka: Santa

Reindeer Candy Canes!!!
It’s almost Christmas…what better way to celebrate than to give a
friend, secret admirer or yourself a candy cane reindeer! And if you
didn’t know, it’s to help support our 8 th Grade Trip!
Each candy cane reindeer is $1.00 or 6 for $5.00.
Each class will receive an envelope to collect the slips beginning
Friday, December 10 th , 2010. The last day will be Monday,
December 20 th , 2010 to turn in your orders. Delivery will be on
Wednesday, December 22 nd , 2010 before Christmas Break.
