INDIAN COMMUNITY SCHOOL
DISABLED PARKING NOTICE
The Indian Community School currently has parking spaces located
in front of the main entrance that are reserved for disabled
persons. These spaces are marked by official traffic signs indicating
the restriction.
The restricted spaces are reserved for disabled persons who have
applied for and obtained through the Wisconsin Department of
Transportation, a Disabled Parking Identification Card, or Disabled
License Plates.
Vehicles/owners who fail to display either, a Disabled Parking
Identification Card on the rear view mirror of the vehicle, or
Disabled License Plates, while parked in the restricted spaces may
be ticketed by the City of Franklin Police Department.
Parking in the School’s Restricted Disabled Parking spaces
without, Disabled License Plates or displaying a Disabled
Parking Identification card on the rear view mirror, is
prohibited.

Information regarding Title 1
Title 1 is a federally funded program. Title 1A works to improve academic achievement for students
with greatest needs.
Under Title1A, MPS (Milwaukee Public Schools) provides services for City of Milwaukee resident
students where ever they attend school.
If your child does not live in the City of Milwaukee, they are not eligible to receive Title 1 services.
If you have any questions regarding your child’s eligibility for the Title1 program or if you are
wondering what kind of services your child will be given this year, please feel free to contact Cheryl

work together in a partner relationship.

SPOTLIGHT
Distracting Items Policy
Items, which may disrupt classes at ICS, are not allowed at school. Examples of such
items include cell phones, toys, stuffed animals, music players, video game players, laser
penlights, cards of any kind, etc. This is not an all-inclusive list and the school
administration and faculty reserve the right to determine if a student’s personal items have
the potential to be disruptive to the classroom. Students with personal items that are
disruptive to school activities will have the item taken away. Parents and/or
guardians may come to the school to pick up any items that have been confiscated.
Student Appearance
Students are expected to be appropriately groomed and dressed for school. Body piercing,
other than ears, is not permitted. Some examples of inappropriate school attire include
bare midriff tops, short shorts, spaghetti strapped blouses or shirts, slippers, extra-long
hanging belts, wallet chains, oversized “Baggy” pants, hats, caps and clothing that appears
to be gang related. If a student arrives at school wearing inappropriate clothing,
his/her parents and/or guardians will be notified and will be required to bring
appropriate clothing to school so the student can change into proper school attire. If
parents or guardians have questions about whether their child/ren’s attire or appearance is
considered appropriate, they may contact the school office.

PARKING NOTICE
The Indian Community School’s circular drive is a Fire Lane. Except for school buses,
parking and/or waiting in the School’s circular drive is prohibited by the City of Franklin’s
Fire Department.
Please help us comply with the City of Franklin and DO NOT PARK OR WAIT IN YOUR
VEHICLE, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME IN
THE SCHOOL’S CIRCULAR DRIVE.
Also for the safety of our staff and students PARKING AND/OR WAITING IN YOUR
VEHICLE IS PROHIBITED ON ALL SCHOOL ROADWAYS. It has come to our
attention that cars parked in the roadway, especially in front of the Gymnasium Entrance,
does not allow for passage of safety vehicles in the event of an emergency, and may create an
unsafe condition for children exiting at the Gymnasium Entrance. Please use the generous
parking lots provided by the School and do not park on School roadways.

Family Craft night 9/29/10

Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year at Indian Community School. We invite you to join us
as we work together with the parents, teachers, and the community to enhance our children’s
educational experience. Parent involvement is essential as we look to coordinate activities,
book-fairs, dances, craft nights, and fund-raisers to provide for the students and we hope you
will find one that interests you.
Our website is a great tool for information regarding both the school and the PTCC. The
fund-raisers, events, meeting minutes and committee updates from the PTCC are posted
regularly to provide you with up-to-date information about all of the happenings at the school.
We look forward to working with you this year and hope to see you at our monthly meetings on
the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6pm in the Drum Room. We try to keep them focused and
timely. A member of the school administration and school staff attend our meetings which are a
great opportunity for you to keep informed about your child’s life at ICS. Childcare is provided
for each meeting.
Thank you in advance for your support and help with PTCC committees and fund-raising
efforts. We look forward to seeing you throughout the school year. If you have any questions or

Reminder: All School Fundraiser
“Enjoy The City” Coupon Books
This is just a friendly reminder that all orders and money must be turned in no later
than September 30, 2010. Please return the sample coupon book by this date if you
didn’t sell it or do not want to buy it.
Remember profits from this fundraiser will go towards 8 th grade trip, 5 th grade
camping trip, FRC “Family Camp” and to support other family activities here at ICS.
Also you can always stop by the FRC and see Cindy or Heather to turn in orders and
money anytime before the 30 th .
Delivery of Orders:
Small orders of 10 or less will be sent home with students unless other
arrangements are made.
Larger orders may be picked up at ICS on October 5, 2010 from 4-7pm in the
cafeteria.
Families can also stop in the FRC with prior arrangements to pick up orders
before October 5 th .

7th & 8th grade Thomas More Junior Cav's Football Team is still
looking for players!!!
Indian Community School students who are interested in playing
football through Thomas More please contact Coach Kevin Magno at
414-587-3766 for more information.
Practices are held Monday, Tuesday & Thursday from 5:30-7 pm and games are on
Wednesdays.
Although this is not an ICS school sponsored team, ICS students have
played in the past for this team.

Winter Clothing Program
The Indian Community School Family Resource Center is again sponsoring a Winter Clothing
Program. This program will be available to assist those families in need of winter clothing for
their children this winter.
In order to qualify for this program:
• Fill out an application
• Provide proof of income for all adults living in the household
Eligibility for assistance will be based upon:
• Income level
• Number of children in household
• Prior services received from this program
• Information obtained in interview/application
• Referrals from teachers/staff
There are limited spots available to receive assistance this year; therefore, families who are in
the most need will be approved. Others will be referred to community resources to assist in
helping them meet their needs.
Applications will be taken at the Indian Community School
Family Resource Center on:

No appointments necessary during these times.
**Applications for the Thanksgiving/Christmas vouchers will begin in November, 2010.

Winter Outerwear Drive
Do you have any gently used winter clothing that your child has out grown and no
longer needs? Please consider donating them to another child in need.
We are collecting gently used winter clothing such as coats, boots, mittens and
snow pants that families may no longer need. (No hats or scarves please)
Items donated will be given to families in the community who may need
assistance obtaining these items for their children.
If they are in need of cleaning we will take care of this.
Items may be dropped off at the Indian Community School Family Resource
Center. If you require alternative forms of getting these items to us please call the
Family Resource Center at 525-6117 and we will be happy to assist you.

Highlights from PTCC Meeting
On September 9, 2010
Treasurer update. Current balance $1,495.00

• Possible Workshops during PTCC to help parents in home life.
• Possible Halloween / Harvest Fest scheduled for November 6 th ,
2010. Contact Jennifer Connors if you are able to volunteer.
Next Mr. Z’s fundraiser to begin on 2/7/11 ending 3/7/11 with delivery
date being 3/23/11.
Ms. Amy Tromp introduced herself as the new Principal for ICS.
Craft Night is scheduled for 9/29/10 this month’s craft is War bonnets.
Price is $3 a kit and includes a dinner / snack.
Bus Issues were brought up. There is an issue with bus route 70-15. Ms.
Tromp will be looking into the issues with the bus company.
Next PTCC Meeting is scheduled for October 14, 2010 with K4/K5
teachers presenting. Child care provided. ALL FAMILIES WECOME!
