“Family Camp Opportunity” Once again the Indian Community School has the opportunity to partner with “Children’s Outing Association to offer a “Family Camp” to our ICS families. This camp will be held August, 2011 at Camp Helen Brachman in Almond, Wisconsin. Family camp has been very successful the past three years and the number of families wishing to participate is growing each year. We are attempting to recruit new families for this next session. This camp will be an opportunity for the entire family to get away from the normal worries for a few days. There will be some great family activities as well as some age separated lessons and fun time. Come to camp, sit around the campfire, take a nature walk, do some crafts, make new friends, participate in a sweatlodge and cultural teachings and renew your family. There is a minimal fee per family, however, with successful fundraising efforts families could be able to attend free. Although August seems so far away it is important we begin to identify families who wish to participate early on. This will allow those families wishing to participate an opportunity to help with fundraising efforts. Family camp has been very successful the past three years and the number of families wishing to participate is growing each year. We are attempting to recruit new families as we would like to offer this opportunity to as many families as possible. If you are interested in attending please contact Cindy Janechek as soon as possible. Please note that families who have not attended camp in past years will be given priority over families who have attended. If you have attended in the past and wish to go again, please let us know as well. We will fill spots up with returning families on a first come first serve basis starting with families who have went one year, then those who have gone twice and finally with families who have gone all three. November 2010 Culture Mentoring Friday Events Friday, November 19 th , 2010 Theme: Wisconsin Tribes Sacred gift: Bravery SNEAK PEEK…… Preparing a Deer The Native Language & Culture staff is planning to possibly have a presentation that involves the skinning if a deer. Ultimately the hide will be hopefully “brain tanned” here at ICS at a later date to share this traditional process as well. If you have any questions, please contact the Native Language & Culture teachers: Mr. Carufel, Ms. LaBelle, & Ms. Van De Viere Fingerweaving & Basket Making Presentations The Native Language & Culture staff is planning to possibly have a presentation that showcases fingerweaving and basket making, presented by two Wisconsin tribal members. More information will be coming. All ICS staff and parents are invited as well. Presentations will take place in the DRUM, and the Native Language classrooms.
