manifest: shaping future leaders In a world that is often tragically unpredictable, the development of leaders capable of meeting great challenges becomes a moral necessity. Illinois Institute of Technology’s legacy of educating leaders has provided a foundation for its future growth. At IIT, we truly believe that we can transform lives and invent the future—a future that, despite the horrors of September 11, 2001, is within our ability to shape. Over the past five years, we have taken steps to invigorate this promise for a new century. Over the next five years, we recommit to delivering the kinds of programs and experiences that business, industry and science are demanding in this increasingly complex, interconnected—and frequently fragile—world. THE POWER OF FUEL CELLS OBATOSIN ALUKO IS A 2000 GRADUATE IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING WHO IS CONTINUING ON FOR HER MASTER’S IN ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING. SHE WAS A LEADER FOR AN INTERPROFESSIONAL PROJECT IN WHICH THE TEAM TESTED STOR- AGE SYSTEMS FOR SOLAR HYDROGEN USED TO POWER FUEL CELLS IN DISTRIBUTED POWER SYSTEMS. ALUKO HAS BEEN AN ENERGY/ENVIRONMENT/ECONOMICS (E3) SCHOLAR AND, AMONG OTHER HONORS, HAS RECEIVED THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION’S OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO THE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY AWARD. “CURRENT ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES ARE THE WAY OF ENCOURAGING GREEN BUSINESS THE CENTER FOR SUSTAINABLE ENTERPRISE IS FOUNDED ON THE RECOGNITION THAT A HEALTHY ECONOMY MUST BE GENERATED IN A CONTEXT OF ECOLOGICAL SUSTAINABILITY AND SOCIAL EQUITY.
