Dear Parishioners,
This week Fr. Tadgh and I had the privilege to take 82 children for their first confession. Many parents and siblings also took
the opportunity to receive this beauful Sacrament. It is always inspiring to see young children, who are so innocent and open
to God, receive this Sacrament so readily. If only we adults were so willing to say sorry and to receive forgiveness with such
big smiles! With the season of Advent approaching, it is a good me to start thinking about how long it may have been since
we aended a reconciliaon service or went to confession, and if it has been a while, to make up our minds to go to our Lord,
who longs to give us peace and healing.
Please pray for our parish children and their families, that they will connue to receive the Sacraments together regularly.
A reminder that our Annual Community Meeng is this Monday evening at 7.30pm. I hope to see as many of you as possible
aending. – Fr. Sunny
Last week, we looked at the Holy Father’s desire that we should rediscover and study the fundamental
content of the faith and retrace the history of our faith. Well, don’t relax just yet, because there is more!
Pope Benedict XVI also desires that the year of faith be a good opportunity for each one of us to intensify the
witness of charity, which is faith in acon.
So what does this mean for me, personally? Well, as it implies, it means turning the faith we profess, each me we
come to Mass, into acon. Jesus spent a lot of me telling the disciples what they should do, but it was when he did
those things that they really sat up and took noce! It has been said that in doing acts of charity there is a clean way
and a messy way. The clean way is to give money - and this is something that the people of this parish do very well
indeed. Such generosity is a grace and a blessing to our community. The messy way takes a lile more personal effort
and requires geng involved with the sick, the poor, the sad and the disadvantaged. How we respond to this call to
intensify the witness of charity will depend on our circumstances, our abilies and our personalies, but we are all
called to do more during this Year of Faith.
In our bullen, this week alone, there are several opportunies to do more - volunteers are being called for to help in
a new night shelter; to lend a hand with the Shopfront Christmas party preparaons and to serve the disadvantaged
on the day of the party; the Red Cross are calling for more blood donors; St. Vincent de Paul are having their annual
Christmas Appeal outside our church today; the Archbishop is sending home his leer for his Lifelink Appeal.
It looks like there are lots of opportunies right here! What should I do? Well, what would you usually do when you
read about the need for help in the bullen? What will you do in this Year of Faith?
PRAYING WITH ST JOHN
OF THE CROSS
Sunday 16th December at
7.30pm-8.30pm , Infant Jesus Church
St John of the Cross tesfies to a God who longs
to meet us in our deepest need.
Whilst rejecon and imprisonment played their
part in the life of this sixteenth-century Spanish
Carmelite friar, John's poetry and prose reveal the
beauty and power and light of a wondrous God.
This gives us courage to believe in the possibility
of change in our own lives, however unlikely or
impossible this may seem.
We look forward to sharing with you a beauful
evening of prayer, song and reflecon.
