Through the tender mercy of our God, the Dawn from on high will visit us.
Dear Parishioners,
Again this weekend we welcome four of the parish children and their families for the reception of First Holy Communion. We are blessed to be able
to share these very special faith moments with our parish families. Let us include these children in our prayers, along with all those who received
the Sacrament two weeks ago.
Next weekend we will welcome more families, those who will be coming to make their commitment to the Confirmation programme. I would like to
express my gratitude to Sue Goodwin, our Sacramental Co-ordinator and her helpers, who put so much effort into preparing the children and assisting
their families during these important Sacramental journeys. I certainly could not do this alone!
Our RCIA programme is also underway and we have two enquirers. This is a wonderful way to explore the Catholic faith, for Catholics as well as
non-Catholics. Why not consider coming along and enriching your own faith? . - Fr. Sunny
All Welcome
“...he is to be called John”
The feast of John the Baptist takes us back into the early historical origins of the Christian story. John was a holy
man with a profound sense of hope that, once again, God was about to enter Israel’s story. An outstanding aspect of
Israel’s faith is that whenever things were at their blackest, then there emerged prophetic figures preaching with utter
certainty that God would surely act for them now. In John’s time, Israel was under the dominion of Rome, led by a
Jewish King in collaboration with Rome, and by a Priesthood that seemed more intent on external observance to the
Law and cultic requirements than a deep spirit-filled life. In this context of oppressive powers, John emerged to
preach the immanent coming of God’s anointed one, the Messiah. John called the people to an inner cleansing of
the heart, symbolised by the outer cleansing with water. Such ritual cleaning was a common practice in first century
Judaism.
