Building Control Regulations<br />
Part I<br />
Means a chamber of a depth greater than 750mm and of such<br />
dimensions that allows entry of a person into such chamber for the<br />
purpose of inspection of a drain or sewer;<br />
1.1.2.63. 'Member'<br />
Means a structural component such as a beam, joist, column, slab, or<br />
foundation;<br />
1.1.2.64. 'Minor <strong>building</strong> work'<br />
Shall have the meaning assigned to it in the Act;<br />
1.1.2.65. 'Non-combustible'<br />
Means a material is incapable of burning or adding heat to a fire and<br />
classified as not combustible when tested in accordance with approved<br />
standards or codes of practice for fire protection;<br />
1.1.2.66. 'Nosing'<br />
Means the front edge of a tread of a stairway and includes the front edge<br />
of the top surface of any landing that is situated at the top of a flight;<br />
1.1.2.67. 'Obstruction'<br />
Means any <strong>building</strong> or other object which partially or completely<br />
intersects any space serving a window, but does not include a slender<br />
object such as a pole or railing, which does not materially obstruct the<br />
entry of light and or air to the opening concerned;<br />
1.1.2.68. 'Occupancy'<br />
Means the particular use or the type of use to which a <strong>building</strong> or portion<br />
of a <strong>building</strong> is normally put or intended to be put;<br />
1.1.2.69. 'Partition'<br />
Means a non-structural interior construction not more than one storey in<br />
height, and generally of lightweight materials, and may or may not be<br />
demountable;<br />
1.1.2.70. 'Partition wall'<br />
Means a non-structural internal wall extending to the ceiling and<br />
constructed for the purpose of subdividing a space;<br />
1.1.2.71. 'Party wall or separating wall'<br />
Means:<br />
a) a wall forming part of a <strong>building</strong> and used or constructed to be used<br />
for the separation of adjoining <strong>building</strong>s belonging to different owners<br />
or constructed or adapted to be occupied by different tenants; or<br />
b) a wall forming part of a <strong>building</strong>, and standing on land of different<br />
owners;<br />
