Multipurpose trails that emphasize safe<br />
travel for pedestrians to <strong>and</strong> from parks <strong>and</strong><br />
around the community. Focus is as much on<br />
transportation as it is on recreation.<br />
Paved segments of roadways that serve as<br />
a means to safely separate bicyclists from<br />
vehicular traffic.<br />
Off road trail for all-terrain (mountain) bikes.<br />
Trails developed for traditional <strong>and</strong> skatestyle<br />
cross-country skiing.<br />
Type I: Separate/single-purpose hard-surfaced<br />
trails for pedestrians or bicyclists/in-line skaters.<br />
Type II: Multipurpose hard-surfaced trails for<br />

Equestrian Trail Trails developed for horseback riding. Loop trails usually located in larger parks <strong>and</strong><br />
natural resource areas. Sometimes developed<br />
as multipurpose with hiking <strong>and</strong> all-terrain biking<br />
where conflicts can be controlled.<br />
Local Recreation Facilities<br />
One of the basic needs of any community is for adequate<br />
recreational facilities that are appropriately located for<br />
citizen use. Facilities are often provided by municipalities,<br />
school districts, counties, states, private businesses, <strong>and</strong><br />
non-profit organizations.<br />
This section identifies outdoor recreation facilities in<br />
great detail, noting the number, type, <strong>and</strong> condition of<br />
existing facilities. It includes a map showing the locations<br />
of each recreation facility.<br />
The Area’s parks system is very typical of many older<br />
municipalities. This system provides one or more<br />
community parks supplemented by smaller playgrounds,<br />
