FRATERNITY, CHARITY AND LOYALTY.<br />

Bro<strong>the</strong>rs we meet again as <strong>Sons</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Union</strong> <strong>Veterans</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Civil</strong> <strong>War</strong> in annual session to review<br />

<strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> past and to plan for <strong>the</strong> future. May our conduct and our deliberations be marked by<br />

mutual tolerance and fraternal courtesy ever keeping in mind our duty to our country, to our Order, and<br />

to ourselves. Color Bearer you will please assist <strong>the</strong> National Chaplain in draping <strong>the</strong> Vacant Chair.<br />

And now <strong>the</strong> Chaplain will invoke <strong>the</strong> divine blessing.<br />

Our Heavenly Fa<strong>the</strong>r, <strong>the</strong> high and mighty Ruler <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> universe who does from Thy throne look<br />

down upon <strong>the</strong> governments <strong>of</strong> man, most humbly do we beseech Thee with Your favor to bless our<br />

native land and to preserve in purity and integrity it’s free institutions for all coming time. Bless our<br />

Order, grant that it may long exist and that it may continue to be an instrument in Thy hands <strong>of</strong> great<br />

good to all. Give us willing hands and ready hearts to properly carry out its objects. Keep green in our<br />

minds <strong>the</strong> memory <strong>of</strong> those who have sacrificed so much, that <strong>the</strong> life <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Nation might be preserved<br />

and deal with <strong>the</strong>m and all things with Thy special mercy. Give us Thy aide in conducting <strong>the</strong> business<br />

<strong>of</strong> this encampment for which we are here assembled. And show it through us that charity and justice<br />

and peace and harmony shall remain and abide with us. Amen.<br />

By virtue <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> authority vested in me, I hereby declare <strong>the</strong> 124th Annual Encampment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

National Organization, <strong>Sons</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Union</strong> <strong>Veterans</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Civil</strong> <strong>War</strong>, duly opened for <strong>the</strong> transaction <strong>of</strong> such<br />

business as may legally and properly come before it. The Guard will admit all Bro<strong>the</strong>rs and persons<br />

qualified to enter.<br />

I was going to call for a report from <strong>the</strong> Encampment Committee on Credentials while we await<br />

that I would like to call once again <strong>the</strong> Mayor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> city <strong>of</strong> Nashua Bernard Streeter forward for a<br />

presentation. Mr. Mayor, on behalf <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sons</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Union</strong> <strong>Veterans</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Civil</strong> <strong>War</strong> I present to you a<br />

copy <strong>of</strong> Abraham Lincoln’s, Gettysburg Address to be presented to <strong>the</strong> city <strong>of</strong> Nashua, New Hampshire<br />

by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sons</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Union</strong> <strong>Veterans</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Civil</strong> <strong>War</strong> for hanging in <strong>the</strong> City Hall as you desire.<br />

report I would like to call Doctor Robert Carroon, Past Commander-in-Chief <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Military Order <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Loyal Legion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> United States <strong>of</strong> America, also Past Department Commander <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Connecticut.<br />
