Regulations <strong>for</strong> <strong>Students</strong> <strong>13</strong><br />
The thesis only charge is £257 <strong>for</strong> a maximum period of 12<br />
months study. Following the period of thesis only, where a<br />
student has not submitted, a student will be returned to their<br />
original mode of study, full time or part time.<br />
3.5.4 Distance Learning (External) <strong>Students</strong><br />
External students may register as full-time or part-time<br />
research students of the <strong>University</strong>, and shall pay the standard<br />
international or NI/GB/EU fee, as applicable.<br />
in accordance with the appropriate Memorandum of<br />
Agreement (Research <strong>Students</strong>).<br />
• For the period when the student is in residence at the<br />
<strong>University</strong>, he/she is deemed to be full-time and the<br />
pro-rated full-time NI/GB/EU or international fee is<br />
payable, as appropriate.<br />
• For the periods when the student is not resident at the<br />
<strong>University</strong>, i.e. he/she is studying overseas instead, they<br />
are deemed to be part-time and the pro-rated parttime<br />
Home/EU or international fee is payable.<br />
3.5.5 Collaborative Research <strong>Students</strong><br />
Fees <strong>for</strong> students who are undertaking research in<br />
collaboration with other institutions will be determined<br />

3.6 International <strong>Students</strong><br />
As a condition of completing the enrolment/ registration<br />
process, all international students must comply with the<br />
following payment arrangements, as outlined in the table<br />
above:<br />
An international student is required:<br />
i. If requested, to provide the Director of Finance with<br />
satisfactory evidence of his/her financial standing<br />
be<strong>for</strong>e commencing his/her second and subsequent<br />
years in attendance or prior to enrolling <strong>for</strong> a further<br />
programme;<br />
ii.<br />
Where appropriate, to pay in advance the annual fees<br />
<strong>for</strong> tuition and <strong>University</strong> residential accommodation<br />
(see Student Accommodation Handbook at http://<br />
www.stayatqueens.com);<br />
iii. To obtain any necessary currency permits to enable<br />
him/her to meet his/her obligations in full on arrival at<br />
the <strong>University</strong>.<br />
Note: All international students must fulfil the financial<br />
arrangements to the satisfaction of the Admissions Officer<br />
be<strong>for</strong>e commencing study at the <strong>University</strong>.<br />
<strong>Students</strong> from outside the United Kingdom, the Channel<br />
Islands or Isle of Man are advised that a sum of £7,000–£9,000<br />
(excluding tuition fees) is normally required to cover a<br />
student’s cost of living <strong>for</strong> one year.<br />
<strong>Students</strong> in certain Schools are required to purchase<br />
instruments or equipment or attend field courses. The funds<br />
required to cover such requirements may exceed the above<br />
sum.<br />
It should be noted also that the sum suggested does not<br />
take account of the funds necessary <strong>for</strong> the support of any<br />
dependants a student may have.<br />

3.7 Student Withdrawals – Tuition Fee<br />

3.7.1 Undergraduate and <strong>Postgraduate</strong> Taught<br />
<strong>Students</strong><br />
Any student may, on a voluntary or required basis, withdraw<br />
either permanently or temporarily from the <strong>University</strong> or<br />
programme of study at any point in the year.<br />
The following sections are relevant in the context of<br />
assessing the fee implications of withdrawals and refunds.<br />
For full-time undergraduate students, the date when a<br />
student withdraws will affect the level of tuition fees which<br />
may be refunded, and it may also affect his/her student<br />
loan. Fee adjustments are calculated with reference to the<br />
date of withdrawal from the <strong>University</strong>, not the last date<br />
