Speakers and Seminar Information Debra Hirsch Main and seminar speaker Jesus Loves Everyone - Gay or Straight (Friday | 11.30 | Church) Debra is a speaker, church leader, and author (with Alan Hirsch) of Untamed: Reactivating a Missional Form of Discipleship. She is publishing a new book on sexuality this year. She currently serves as a minister of ‘Tribe of LA’, a community made up primarily of struggling artists and vagabonds. She was also a leader of Christian Associates (a church planting movement). Debra has a heart for those on the margins of the church and broader society. Over the last few years Debra has spent a lot of time amongst the LGBT community of Los Angeles, leading the LA Tribe (A church within the LGBT / Arts community). During this time she has taken time to reflect on a theology and practice of engagement with this community. In this session Debra will share her thoughts on these issues, providing an overview. Winsome Jesus - Evangelism in Marginalised Cultures (Saturday | 2pm | Garnethill) Debra will lead a session for mission practitioners following on from Friday's seminar on this issue of reaching people in the LGBT community. This will be more focused on "how to" rather than the underpinning rationale. Alan Hirsch Main and seminar speaker APEST Leadership (Saturday | 9.30 | Church) The Shaping of Things to come (Seminar with Norman Graham | Saturday | 2pm | Church) Alan is the founding director of <strong>Forge</strong> Mission Training Network. Currently he co-leads Future Travelers, a program helping megachurches become missional movements. The author of several books, Alan lectures internationally and is an adjunct professor at several seminaries in the US. His experience includes leading a local church movement among the marginalized, developing training systems for missional leadership. Paul wrote about the need for apostolic, prophetic, evangelistic, shepherd(pastoral) and teaching leaders within the church. Teaching some of his most significant material Alan explains why we need once more to discover the five fold nature of leadership once again and how it is particularly essential in the context we find ourselves in today. In 2003, Alan wrote a book along with his co-conspirator Michael Frost (you may have heard of it). He will outline the main ideas in this seminar, and Norman Graham, Minister of Denny Baptist Church, will share how he has sought to implement these ideas within his church and what difference it has made.
Speakers and Seminar Information Norman Graham Seminar speaker Scott Brennan Seminar speaker Lessons Learnt Along the Way (Friday | 11.30am | Blythswood) Youth Focus (Seminar with Ken Wilson| Saturday | 2pm | Chapel) Ken Wilson Seminar speaker Barbara Jenkinson Seminar speaker Encounter Based Evangelism, Discipleship & Church (Friday | 11.30am | Kirk Lounge) Norman is married and has three adult children. He worked in Scripture Union’s Bookshop ministry for 17 years, leaving to study at ICC and has been the pastor of Denny Baptist since 2005. Norman will be leading The Shaping of Things to come seminar with Alan Hirsch | Saturday | 2pm | Church (see previous page) Scott is the team leader of Lighthouse Church, with connections in Edinburgh and East Lothian, Bavaria and rural Ghana. Scott is passionate about the gospel being communicated in a culturally relevant way. He has a vision to see the Church in Scotland work strategically and collaboratively. Lessons learned along the way is a session based on "how to navigate the stills and storms of the missional journey." We will look at Sticking with God's vision for mission despite limited knowledge and having not been there before, developing a spiritual anchor to ride out the storms, growing a robust team to go with you, what to do when it's looks like the wind has stilled and enjoying the thrill of the waves Much has been written recently about reaching millennials. What does church for this generation look like and how does it relate to the all age church? Ken Wilson and Scott Brennan share the highs, lows, opportunities, challenges and privileges of engaging with young people. Ken has youth work experience working in urban, rural and suburban settings. He is passionate about advancing Christian Youth Work and is known for his pioneering of Relational Youth Work and for cofounding of Britain’s first professional youth ministry training course : Oxford Youth Works. Ken also helps to organise national events such as Deep Impact, the National Christian Youthwork Conference. Barbara directs Light & Life (an evangelistic organisation), and is currently involved in planting a new church (River Fellowship) in Troon, along with her husband, Colin. A passionate evangelist, prophet and worship leader, Barbara has a strong teaching anointing which she combines with her ‘off the wall’ sense of humour. Ken will be leading the Youth Focus seminar with Scott Brennan | Saturday | 2pm | Chapel Often the opportunities today for people to connect with Jesus come from their openness to spiritual experience. Barbara Jenkinson brings a wealth of expertise in engaging with spiritual seekers from her work developing Light and Life and shares stories and lessons from church planting form that place.
