On board measuring systems – LPM/TPM III-RT
The measurement of rail wear faults is the primary condition of quality grinding. Speno International S.A. has developed the LPM/TPM III-RT system to satisfy the
latest developments in international standards (prCEN 13231) and thus guarantee unequalled measurement accuracy.
Based on the latest innovations in measurement acquisitions, this technology guarantees a
quality measurement without loss of production: thanks to a real-time processing, several
measuring chains display the state of the rail before and after grinding on the same screen.
This synchronisation can be carried out on the same machine equipped with two trolleys, or
between two coupled trains.
The reliability of PXI technology and the choice of the most advanced equipment ensures
optimal robustness in the face of difficult worksite conditions.
The measurement of corrugations, also known as longitudinal measurement, is a
differential contact measurement (LVDT 1 ). By means of a complex algorithm, which is the
exclusive property of Speno International S.A., the software determines the amplitude of
the corrugations.
The measurement of the rail profile, also termed cross section measurement, is a laser
based measurement. The software extracts 8 points defined by the client to characterise
the profile.
Displayed on the screen is a colour bar graph permitting the rapid identification of those
parts of the measured profile which do not correspond to the target profile.
The software supplied by Speno International S.A. permits the creation of a number of
different reports, including detailed analyses, statistical summaries as well as clear and
easy to use graphical representations. The office version permits the re-reading of
measurements to create reports with any kind of PC.
Software parameters permit the separation of the waves into several categories, known as bands, according to their length. Since corrugation has different effects
according to its wavelength, the tolerances are different for each band. The software allows the configuration of up to four independent bands, overlapping or not
overlapping.
Reports in the form of bar graphs represent the
divergences between the target and the measured profiles
