Farstad Shipping awarded Rolls-Royce a £50
million contract to design and equip two
anchor-handling vessels. The Rolls-Royce
UT 731 CD vessels are designed to work in
extreme environmental conditions and carry
out operations in water as deep as 3,000
metres. The vessels will be built at STX OSV
Langsten yard in Norway, with delivery
between April and June 2013.

ISLAND OFFSHORE
In October, Rolls-Royce signed a contract with the Brazilian São Miguel
shipyard for the delivery of design and equipment to four oil spill
response vessels (OSRV). This is a repeat of the two UT 535 E vessels
which are already under construction at São Miguel. The first vessel
will be ready for delivery in the first quarter of 2013 and will be
operated by Skymar.
The overall length of each vessel will be 61.70m with a beam of 14 m,
and deadweight of about 1400 DWT. In addition to design, Rolls-
Royce will deliver propulsion system, thrusters, deck machinery,
automation and control systems.
Rolls-Royce secured contracts for two platform supply vessels of the
new UT 717 CD design for Island Offshore in November. The two
vessels will be built at STX OSV’s Brevik shipyard in Norway, with a
scheduled delivery in the third and fourth quarter in 2013.
The overall length of each vessel will be 84.45m with a beam of 17m,
they will have a deck area of 800m2 and deadweight of approximately
3,800 DWT. Crew capacity is 26 persons.
In addition to design, Rolls-Royce is to deliver main engines,
propulsion system, tunnel thrusters, deck machinery and automation
system.
