trol; your diet is one of the factors that you
can work on controlling the most in order
to clear up your acne.
- Drink about 1litre of water a day
to flush out impurities and toxins from your
body. When impurities accumulate in your
body and have no outlet, one of the outlets
is through the skin in the form of acne.
- Avoid drinking sodas and juices
with artificial sugars and preservatives.
Research has shown a connection between
having high sugar content in your blood
and acne, Other than acne high blood
sugar causes loads of other problems.
Instead drink homemade fresh juices or
homemade brewed green tea-plain with no
honey milk or sugar.
Green tea has lots of antioxidants to clear
out toxins. You shouldn’t stop living and
restrain yourself from drinking juice and
sodas but do it in moderation like two
times a week or on weekends. Personally
once I stopped drinking sodas and artificial
juices, I found myself craving sugary drinks
less often.
- It only makes sense to also avoid
junk foods and foods with preservatives,
grease and oils. These are more complex
for your body to break down and have little
or no nutritional value. They just increase
the number of impurities in your body and
breathe more life into your acne.
- Now depending on where you get
milk from, you do want to watch out for
milk and dairy products because sometimes
milk may have the hormones and
steroids that have been fed to cows that in
turn cause a hormonal imbalance in your
body.
- Wear less make-up, preferably
oil free powder based foundations and
mineral foundations. There are some good
brands of make-up out there, I especially
love the Artistry compressed powder and
Artistry mineral foundation. These don’t
clog up my skin and feel light.
- Exercise so as to help your body
metabolize faster and in turn sweat out
and excrete toxins and impurities.
- Find yourself a good acne
cleanser with benzoyl peroxide or an acne
soap and use it once a day at night, and in
the morning use something gentle to avoid
further drying out the skin. You might think
that by cleansing more or using the acne
cleanser you are doing your skin a favor
but you will instead give it an irritation.
- Finally - take supplements. You
need to understand that depending on your
body and age, you begin to extract less and
less out of foods so will need to add some
extra vitamins into your diet. Great skin
health vitamins are supplements containing
biotin, vitamin A, antioxidants and fish oil/
omega 3 supplements.
I take Nutrillite’s Primrose plus with vitamin
A and Evening primrose oil to balance
out my hormones and Nutrillite’s Ocean
Health Omega 3 supplements, amongst
others, daily to improve my skin.
Stay positive and don’t be ashamed or
embarrassed by your acne. There are days
when I avoided leaving the house or going
for social functions, especially day time
ones because I was embarrassed about
how I looked and worried about what people
think and say. Being in the beauty field
I am expected to have perfect flawless skin
so you can understand the undue pressure
I added on to myself which probably turned
into stress, which turned into acne…
I hope even our ‘flawless skin’ sisters learn
something from this article and I encourage
you as supportive sisters to be sensitive
about the feelings of people with acne
by understanding what causes it and that
some of it is out of their control.
How you ask questions or comment about
the person’s skin can really cause the
person self-esteem issues which most of
the time only increases their acne.
Acne is normal there is nothing wrong with
you and you are not the only person with
acne even when it seems so, it is also not a
permanent condition and can be
managed and controlled by you in
conjunction with whichever acne treatment
you are undergoing.
