Daughters
of the Nile

Thursday, August 2nd is our Stated Session
with lunch at noon, and Session at 1:00.
On Sunday, August 26th we will have our
annual Pancake Breakfast and Bake Sale at
the Shrine Center, on the lower level. We
will be serving breakfast and selling our
baked goods from 8:00 am until 12:00 noon.
Bring your family, friends, neighbors and
colleagues from work, the cost is only $7,
and $3 for kids 5 and under. The public is
welcome.
Thursday, September 6 is the Stated
Session with lunch at noon, and Session at
1:00. You can make lunch reservations with
Margaret Kirby.
Tuesday, September 18th, at 5:30 pm,
the Metro Area Nile Club will host the Satra
Temple Queen’s Visit. It will be at the
Council Bluffs Country Club. You can call
Arlene Andersen for a reservation.
The Corner Lot Sale will be on Saturday,
September 22 from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm at the
Shrine Temple in the South parking lot. We
need people to help us with marking all the
items we have collected which will begin at
about 6:30 am. Please let me know if you can
help us mark the items, my number is 402-
203-9726. We are still accepting items for the
sale; just give me a call.
Saturday, October 6, our new Supreme
Queen, Suzie Schumacher will visit Sat-ra
Temple. The Stated Session and Ceremonial
will be combined, so we will not have a
Stated Session on August 4. We will start
at 1:00 (no lunch that day); a Reception in
the Green Room will follow the Ceremonial,
which will be followed by a formal dinner
banquet in the Main Room. You can invite
your Noble, or significant other, to come to
the dinner. The Ceremonial and Banquet will
be at the Shrine Center. The dinner is $25 per
person. Send a check to Barb Gray which
will be your RSVP.
Did you know? Members of Daughters
of the Nile have been helping Shriners
Hospitals for Children for nearly 90 years,
and we are honored to be a part of the World’s
Greatest Philanthropy. The Supreme Temple
Daughters of the Nile Foundation is very
proud of our donation to Shriners Hospitals
for Children for the year 2011. The annual
contribution brings the total contributions
from Daughters of the Nile to over $50
million.
Daughters of the Nile, we hope to see you
at upcoming Stated Sessions, the Ceremonial
and Banquet, fundraisers, and all of our other
events and activities.

Golden Girls

Already, here we are in the second half of
the year 2012. Time, like money these days,
seems to evaporate. Think you’ll agree.
During August the summer begins to wind
down. The school bells (excuse me - buzzers)
ring for the youngsters to return to school
and the grownups to return to the basics, so
to speak.
And the weather! We don’t need to dread
those August “dog days” as we’ve suffered
through a good supply of them during July.
Blessed be the air conditioner.
Golden Girls will meet on Tuesday, August
14 - same time and place. The food is always
very good and a very friendly atmosphere
prevails.
Any Lady affiliated with Daughters of the
Nile or a Tangier Shriner, with no husband,
is eligible for membership in Golden Girls.
Tangier Shriners, if you know of any Lady
meeting these eligibility requirements tell
them about our club. Urge them to call
Arlene Andersen, 402-384-8409 for further
information.
Golden Girl JoAnn Spann will be
celebrating her birthday August 5th. Happy
birthday JoAnn; wishing you many more.
If you were unable to be present at our
July meeting - too bad! You missed an
exceptionally fine book review. Our luncheon
guest, Barb Schlitz, reviewed the book “Mrs.
Kennedy and Me” by Clint Hill. The author
was Jackie Kennedy’s Secret Service agent.
Both of them experienced many interesting
situations during their four year close
relationship.

Hospital Float

We are reaching the
halfway point in the parade
season with Carson, Iowa on August 4th and
Millard, August 25th. CSSA will be held in
Cedar Rapids, Iowa on August 11th.
Happy birthday greetings to the following
Nobles and Ladies in August: PP Don Madsen,
Noble Dick Whiteman and Ladies Linda Nolte
and Laura Mendoza.
Noble Matt and Lady Stacy Hultquist and
PP Don and Lady Barb Madsen will celebrate
anniversaries this month. Our congratulations
and wishes for many happy years are sent to
them.
Continued best wishes for a speedy recovery
are sent to Lady Betty Carter as she recovers
from her fall.

Greeters

Hello Greeter Guys and Gals.
The July 4th parade in Ralston was a hot
one, it was well attended by the Tangier
Nobles and Ladies, and no one melted from
the heat.
We have two local area parades in August:
Carson Iowa, August 4th and Millard, August
25th. Please try to attend if possible. The
parades are fun and the fellowship is even
better. A big thank you to Assistant Director
Chuck Kubich for his truck to pull our
greeters float.
CSSA is on August 11th in Cedar Rapids,
Iowa - wishing everyone a safe and fun trip.
The Tangier Stated Meeting is the second
Thursday, August 9th. We need Greeters at
the door, dressed in red shirts and brown
fatigues - do not forget your Fez.
The Greeters picnic is set for August 19th,
same place as last year, Bellevue Masonic
Lodge. If you have not received an invitation
please contact Asst. Dir. Chuck Kubich. The
mailing for the picnic is RSVP, we need to
know how many are attending. Please let us
know with a Yea or Nay.
Keep the Greeters and the Tangier strong,
find new members.
Racers

Six Racers drove to Red Oak, IA in the rain
but hoping for dry streets upon arrival. Not
the case. We checked the parade route and
it was full of puddles. Our little cars have
floorboards that scoop in front. No way could
we drive through puddles. We made the trip
but could not be part of that annual parade.
Next up for us will be CSSA and the Carson
and Millard parades. We just need drier
streets.
The Racers now have new sweatshirts to
wear during parades. The first time for these
shirts will be Carson, Iowa on August 4.
Tangier is getting ready for its annual
Spaghetti feed and the Racers, as in the past,
presented a check to Tangier to pay for the
necessary meat that is the base for the sauce.

Last month, we asked for the non driving
racers to return their cars to the club for
reassignment. No luck, yet. We will keep
trying to get the unused cars in the hands of
club members who want to drive in parades.
