7.1 Introduction<br />

This chapter discusses the critical technologies that are used in the development<br />

of optical <strong>wireless</strong> communication network, for the provision of safety<br />

and convenience to the vision-impaired population. The technologies of<br />

the hardware, firmware, decision algorithms, communication protocols,<br />

and application programs developed for sensor nodes in optical <strong>wireless</strong><br />

communication network are applied for the smart blind-guidance network<br />

system. It follows the latest specifications, concepts, and trends in the<br />

design of sensor nodes to meet its requirements for applying in the nextgeneration<br />

<strong>wireless</strong> network. In <strong>ad</strong>dition, this technology is supplemented<br />

by the assistant equipment (cane) for the blind and the communication<br />
