Jaguar’s commitment to comfort and<br />
simplicity is embodied in the XF’s outstanding<br />
transmission engineering. Its advanced ZF<br />
eight-speed automatic transmission delivers<br />
barely perceptible, velvet smooth, gear<br />
changes. The system continuously calculates<br />
the optimum moment to shift gear, reading<br />
the road and the driver’s operating style,<br />
adapting appropriately to constantly<br />
optimise performance. Shifts are initiated<br />
in just 200 milliseconds - even faster than<br />
can be achieved by a professional driver.<br />
What’s more, the transmission can ‘multidownshift’,<br />
for example from 5th to 2nd gear,<br />
rather than shifting sequentially as with a<br />
conventional system. For a more immediate<br />
power experience the driver can override<br />
the system with paddle shifts conveniently<br />
located behind the steering wheel.<br />
For more extreme conditions special<br />
transmission programs can be selected with<br />
the JaguarDrive Control TM : Sports Mode<br />
provides more responsive performance<br />
whereas Winter Mode automatically dampens<br />
the accelerator pedal response creating more<br />
gradual traction on ice. The system also<br />
softens the gear shifts to prevent sudden<br />
speed changes, increasing control when tyre<br />
grip is low in slippery conditions.<br />
