25.1 William Kinread 

The second couple of these names 

25.1.1 William Kinread was born ca 1810 at Ballaugh. He married Ann Garrett on the 

17th of April, 1838, at Jurby. An agricultural labourer, in 1851 he was living at East 

Nappin, Jurby, with his wife and family. 

25.1.2 Ann Garrett was born ca 1814 at Jurby. She married Wiliam Kinread on the 17th 

of April, 1838, at Jurby.

25.3 Charlotte Kindrade 

Charlotte Kinrade first appears in the census of 1841 when she was living with William & 

Catherine Quayle on the Bishop’s Domain, Ballaugh. She appears to have been the illegitimate 

daughter of Catherine Quayle. 

25.3.1 William Quayle (4115) was born ca 1762. He married Catherine Mylrea on the 

14th of January, 1793, at Michael. In 1841 he was living on the Bishop’s Domain, 

Ballaugh, with his wife and two grand–children. He died in 1845 and was buried on 

Christmas Day at Ballaugh. See 25.4 for details of his descendants. 

25.3.1.1 Catherine Mylrea (4116) was born ca 1756. She married William Quayle on the 

14th of January, 1793, at Michael. See 25.4 for details of her descendants.

25.4.1 John Quayle (4117) was baptised on the 16th of July, 1784, at Michael. 

25.4.2 William Quayle (4118) was baptised on the 27th of August, 1786, at Michael. 

25.4.3 Elizabeth Quayle, (4119) was baptised on the 8th of March, 1789, at Michael. 

25.4.4 Charles Quayle (4120) was baptised on the 26th of June, 1791, at Michael. 

25.4.5 Margaret Quayle (4121) was baptised on the 17th of July, 1793, at Michael.

25.4.9 Catherine Quayle (4125) was baptized on the 14th of August, 1803, at Michael. 

She appears to have had at least two illegitimate children though the identies of the 

fathers has not yet been determined. In 1841 her two children were living with the 

grand–parents at the Bishop’s Domain, Ballaugh, and she was live–in servant with 

John & Charlotte Caine at Baragrroo Moar, Michael. She appears to have married 

some time later for the 1851 census shows her living on the Bishop’s Domain with as 

the wife of Patrick Crellin. She has not been identified in the 1861 census. 

25.4.9.1 Patrick Crellin (4126) was born ca 1790. An agricultural labourer, he married 

Margaret Kewley (1802-30/8/1837) on the 24th of December, 1831, at Michael. A 

record of his marriage to Catherine Quayle has not been found. He died in 1857 and 

was buried on the 7th of June at Ballaugh.

25.4.9.2 Charlotte Kinrade (4127) was born ca 1830. Her father has not been positively 

identified. In 1841 her age was given as 12 years when she was living with her 

grand–parents. In 1851 her age was given as 20 years. 

25.4.9.3 John Cowley (4128) was born ca 1833. His father has not been positively 

identified. In 1841 his age was given as 7 years when he was living with his 

grand–parents. In 1851 his age was given as 17 years.

John Kinread was born ca 1690. He had at least one son, Gilbert. 

25.11.1 Gilbert Kinread was born ca 1717 at Lezayre. He married Jane Cannell on the 8th 

of November, 1757, at Lezayre. No issue of the mariage have been identified. 

Jane Cannell was baptized on the 24th of November, 1717, at Michael. She married 

Gilbert Kinread on the 8th of November, 1757, at Lezayre. She died on the 20th of March, 


John Cannell was born ca 1690. He married Ann Cannon (bc 1690) on the 15th of August, 

1717, at Michael. Their children were:

25.13 Averick Kinread 

see Will of 1754 

Averick Kinread was born ca 1695, Andreas. She married Samuel Kinley ca 1713 at 

Andreas. She buried on the 12th of March, 1754, at Andreas although her Will states she 

died in April. 

There was one son, Samuel, who was baptized on the 13th of May, 1713, at Andreas. He 

was the sole benificiary under his mother’s Will of June 1754. He married Catherine 

Kneal on the 22nd of June, 1754, at Andreas. 



Samuel senior was buried at Andreas on the 30th of April, 1734. 

Samuel junior was buried at Andreas on the 26th of March, 1786. 

Catherine, als Kneale, was buried at Andreas on the 23rd of March, 1792. 

25.14 Philip Kinrade—1710 

25.14.1 Philip Kinread was born ca 1710. He married Joney Cowle on the 19th of 

February, 1733-4, at Andreas. He was buried at Andreas on the 9th of August 1754. 

Will. 

Two sons of the marriage: Thomas baptized 19th of December, 1736, at Lezayre. John 

baptized 9th of September, 1739, at Lezayre. 

25.15 William C Kinrade—1876 

25.15.1 William C Kinrade (6013) was born ca 1876. He first appears int he 1881 census 

(Bride 1–45) as the grand–son of Eleanor Kaye, 78, widow. He also appears in the 

1891 census (Andreas 1–45) as the great nephew to James Teare. 

It seem likely that Elaneor Kaye and James Teare were siblings and that William C 

was illegitimate. 

James Teare married Ann Corlett on the 29th of April, 1809, at Andreas. Their 

children were:– 

Ellinor, bpatized 10th February, 1811. Married Robert Key, 23rd February, 1841, at 

Andreas; 

Ann, baptized 15th October, 1812; 

Philip, baptized 8th of February, 1815; 

Jane, baptized 7th December 1817; 

James, baptized 30th August, 1820; 

John, baptized 28th December, 1825; and 

Margaret, baptized 14th September, 1828 

Robert Key maried Ellen Teare on the 23rd of February, 1841, at Andreas. Their 

childredn were:– 

Jane, baotized 12th February, 1941, at Bride; 

Ellinor, baptized 7th of July, 1844, at Bride; 

Robert, baptized 7th of July, 1850, at Bride; and possibly 

Ann 

25.16 William Kinrade—1864 

25.16.1 William Kinrade was born ca 1864. He is listed as a grand-son aged 6 in the 1871 

census at the home of John & Jane Fargher, Andreas 2–1. 

John Fargher married Jane Caine on the 21 st of August, 1841, at Andreas.

If William Kinrade was the grand-son of John & Jane Fargher, as recorded in the 

census for 1871 and 1881, then he must have been the son of one of their daughters 

otherwise his surname would have been recorded as Fargher. 

Assuming the daughter was at least 15 years of age at the birth, then she must have 

been born before 1850. The only possible daughter is Catherine unlesss there was 

another, as yet undetected, daughter between John and James. 

Catherine married James Stafford on the 14 th of December, 1872, at Andreas. They 

had one daughter, Elleanor Jane, baptized on the 21 st of June, 1874, at Andreas. 

The 1881 census records a second grand-son, John aged 2. An illegitiate birth for a 

John Edward Fargher on the 8 th of April, 1879, at Andreas. The mother’s name was 

given as Ann. 

25.18 William Kinrade—1864 

25.18.1 John Fargher (6404) was born circa 1815 at Andreas. He married Jane Caine on 

the 21st of August, 1841, at Andreas. 

In 1851 he was living with his family at Ballakinney, Andreas, when he was 

employed as an agricultural labourer. In 1861 the family were living at Cronk Kerry, 

Andreas. In 1871 the family were living at Ballawhane, Andreas. In 1881 the family 

were living at 3, College Street, Ramsey, when John was employed as a mason’s 

labourer. In 1891, a widower, he was living at 3, College St., Ramsey. 

25.18.2 Jane Caine (6405) ws born circa 1821 at Andreas. She married John Fargher on 

the 21st of August, 1841, at Andreas.There is a possible burial at Andreas on the 9th 

of December, 1883, when the age was recorded as 59 years. 

Her mother, Catherine [Caine] was living with the family in 1861. A widow, her age 

was given as 76 years and her birth place as Andreas.

25.19.1 Catherine Jane Fargher (6406) was baptized on the 12th of December, 1841, at 

Andreas. In 1851 she was living with her parents at Ballakinney, Andreas. In 1861 

she was living with her parents at Cronk Kerry, Andreas, and was employed as an 

agricultural labourer. In 1871 she was employed as a general servant on the farm of 

William Quayle at Cronk–y–Chee, Andreas. 

25.19.2 John Fargher (6407) was baptized on the 12th of October, 1844, at Andreas. In 

1851 he was living with his parents at Ballakinney, Andreas. In 1861 he was living 

with is parents at Cronk Kerry, Andreas, and was apprenticed as a shoemaker. In 



1871 he was living with his parents at Ballawhane, Andreas, when his occupation 

was given as mariner. 

25.19.3 James Fargher (6408) was baptized on the 28th of February, 1847, at Andreas. He 

did not survive infancy and was buried at Andreas on the 8th of February, 1848. 

25.19.4 Robert Fargher (6409) was baptized on the 22nd of December, 1848, at Andreas. 

He did not survive infancy though a burial has not been located. 

25.19.5 Thomas Fargher (6410) was baptized on the 22nd of November, 1850, at 

Andreas. In 1851 he was living with his parents at Ballakinney, Andreas. In 1861 he 

was living with his parents at Cronk Kerry, Andreas. 

25.19.6 Ann Fargher (6411) was baptized on the 17th of July, 1853, at Andreas. In 1861 

she was living with her parents at Cronk Kerry, Andreas. In 1871 she was living 

with her parents at Ballawhane, Andreas. In 1881 she was living with her parents at 

3, College St., Ramsey, and was employed as a dressmaker. In 1891 she was living, 

unmarried, with her father at 3, College St., Ramsey. 

25.19.6.1 Mariann Fargher was born circa 1874 at Ramsey. She was living with family in 

1871 as a grand–daughter. Her parents have not yet been identified, but she was 

probably an illegitimate daughter of Ann. In 1891 she was living with her 

grand–father and mother at 3, College St., Ramsey, and was employed as a 

dressmaker. 

25.19.6.2 John Edward Fargher was born on the 8th of April, 1879, at Ramsey, the 

illegitmate son of Ann. In 1871 he was living with his mother and grand–parents at 

3, College St., Ramsey. In 1891 he was living with his mother and grand–father at 3, 

College St., Ramsey. 

25.19.7 William Fargher (6412) was born circa 1856. In 1861 he was living with his 

parents at Cronk Kerry, Andreas. 

25.19.8 Elizabeth Mary Fargher (6413) was baptized on the 25th of January, 1859, at 

Andreas. In 1861 she was living with her parents at Cronk Kerry, Andreas. In 1871 

she was living with her parents at Ballawhane, Andreas. 

25.19.9 James William Fargher (6414) was baptized on the 12th of March, 1865, at 

Andreas. In 1871 he was living with his parents at Ballawhane, Andreas. In 1881 he 

was living with his parents at 3, College St., Ramsey, and was apprenticed as a 

joiner.

25.20.1 William Kinrade (6415) was baptized as Fargher on the 15th of October, 1864. In 

1871 he was living with his grand–parents at Ballawhane, Andreas. In 1881 he was 

living with his grand–parents at 3 College St., Ramsey, and was employed as a 

baker. He has not been identified in the 1891 census. 



25.21 Robert Kinrade—1865 

25.21.1 Philip Kneen (6212) was born circa 1799. He married firstly Mary Quayle on the 

19th of February, 1822, at Lezayre and secondly Elizabeth Kinrade on the 1st of 

September, 1846, at Ballaugh, see 2.15.1 

In 1841 he and his family were farming at Jharraghbane, Ballaugh. In 1851 he was 

farming 48 acres at Shanaghbane, Ballaugh. in 1861 he and his wife were lodging 

with her unmarried siblings at Sharragh Bane, Ballaugh 

25.21.2 Mary Quayle (6213) was born circa 1800. She married Philip Kneen on the 19th 

of February, 1822, at Lezayre. She was buried on the 28th of March, 1845, at 

Ballaugh, when her age was recorded as 47 years.

25.22.1.1 John Camaish (6383) was baptized on the 6th of September, 1829, at Andreas, 

the son of John Camaish & Ann Kneale. He married Cathrine Kneen on the 20th of 

November, 1852, at Ballaugh. 

25.22.2 William Kneen was born circa 1825. In 1841 he was living with his parents at 

Jharraghbane, Ballaugh. 

25.22.3 Edward Kneen was born circa 1828. In 1841 he was living with his parents at 

Jharraghbane, Ballaugh. Could this be Matthew? 

25.22.4 Matthew Kneen (6215) was baptized on the 26th of February, 1829, at Ballaugh. 

he has not been identified inthe 1841 census. 

25.22.5 Mary Kneen (6216) was baptized on the 9th of May, 1832, at Ballaugh. In 1841 

she was living with her parents at Jharraghbane, Ballaugh. In 1851 she was living 

with her father and step–mother at Shanaghbane, Ballaugh. In 1871 she was living 

with her sister Catherine and her husband at Ballagownall, Andreas. 

25.22.6 Philip Kneen (6217) was baptized on the 5th of July, 1835, at Ballaugh. In 1841 he 

was living with his parents at Jharraghbane, Ballaugh. In 1851 he was living with 

his father and step–mother at Shanaghbane, Ballaugh. In 1861 he was visiting his 

father and step–mother at Sharragh Bane, when he was employed as a miller. 

25.22.7 John Kneen (6219) was baptized on the 13th of June, 1838, at Ballaugh. In 1851 

he was living with his father and step–mother at Shanaghbane, Ballaugh. In 1861 

he was visiting his father and step–mother at Sharragh Bane, when he was 

employed as a joiner. 



25.22.8 Ann Jane Kneen (6219) was baptized on the 21st of August, 1842, at Ballaugh. In 

1851 she was living with her father and step–mother at shanaghbane, Ballaugh. In 

1861 she was working as an house servant to Jane Crellin at Ballaskyre, Michael.

6220 Robert B 24th Dec 1865 Andreas 

25.23.1 Robert Kinrade (6220) was baptized on the 24th of December, 1865, at Andreas. 

Only his mother’s name was recorded. He married Eliza Christian on the 20th of 

December, 1888. 

In 1871 he was living with his aunt Cahterine and her husband John Camish at 

Ballagownall, Andreas. In 1881 he seems to be living with the same family at 

Ballacallum, Andreas, when he was employed as a labourer. In 1891 he and his 

young family were living at 11, King Street, Ramsey, when he was employed as a 

mariner. In 1901 the family were living at 14, Dale Street, Ramsey, when he was 

employed as a fish and potatoe dealer. 

25.23.1.1 Eliza Chiristian (6221) was born circa 1870. She married Robert Kinrade on the 

20th of December, 1888.

25.24.2 Eliza Kinrade (5987) was born on the 11th of September, 1893, at Ramsey. she did 

not survive infancy and was buried on the 1st of April, 1894, at Bride when her age 

was recorded as 8 months. 

25.24.3 Alfred Kinrade (6223) was born on the 23rd of September, 1896, at Ramsey. In 

1901 he was living with his parents at 14, Dale Street, Ramsey. 

25.24.4 Sidney Kinrade (6224) was born on the 17th of October, 1898, at Ramsey. In 1901 

he was living with his parents at 14, Dale Street, Ramsey. 

25.24.5 Christian Kinrade (6225) was born on the 3rd of July, 1900, at Ramsey. In 1901s 

he was living with her parents at 14, Dale Street, Ramsey.

25.25.1 Thomas Kinrade was born circa 1785. He married Elizbeth Kewley circa 1810 

though a marriage record has not been found.

25.26.1 Thomas Kinrade was baptized on the 26th of May, 1811, at St. Matthew, Douglas. 

He married Jane Teare on the 26th of April, 1834, at Jurby. There were no issue of 

the marriage. He died before the census of 1871 but a burial has not been located. 

In 1841 he and his wife were living at The Howe, Braddan, when he was employed 

as an agricultural labourer. In 1851 they were living at 8, Fancy Street, Douglas. In 

1861 they were living at St. George’s Terrace, Douglas. In 1871 Jane, a widow, was 

boarding at 4, St. George’s Terrace and was employed as a charwoman. 

In 1851 Margaret Kinrade/Lawson was living with the couple, see 1.57.1. She was 

the illegitmate daughter of Daniel Kinrade & Catherine Lawson. In the census she 

listed as “relative”. This probably means a connection between Thomas and Daniel, 

maybe brothers?
