Limburg on the River Lahn
Meandering lanes, steep flights of steps and historic half-timbered houses are distinctive features
of Limburg. And, of course, the Cathedral which seems to grow out of the rock and stands
majestically above the city. Commenced in 1206, St. George’s Cathedral is considered to be
one of the masterpieces of the late Romantic period of the Rhineland.
Limburg is one of the few towns where the medieval buildings are almost intact. Many halftimbered
houses originating from the 13th to 18th century were restored with great care and
appropriately used.
We take our responsibility towards town planning very seriously.
Just as we make high aesthetic demands on our product, we also do so in terms of our buildings.
Heinrich Gantenbrink formulated this commitment at the beginning of the 1960s when the
decision was made to extend and modernize the glassworks as follows: »It is our task not to
damage the townscape characterized by the Cathedral with industrial facilities and the name
of the town which is integrated in our company name. We also owe this to the glass products
we make. It is made for people for whom the appearance of objects which surround them is
very important. All the new company facilities completed to date are clear evidence of our
creative will to build a factory which surpasses mere technical necessity and is also a pleasure
to look at.«
