COMMITTEE ON PRESCHOOL SPECIAL EDUCATION (CPSE)<br />

MEMBERSHIP<br />

At its yearly organization meeting, the Board of <strong>Ed</strong>ucation shall appoint a<br />

Committee on Preschool <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Ed</strong>ucation comprised of at least the following<br />

mandated members:<br />

the parents of the preschool child;<br />

not less than one general education teacher of the child whenever the<br />

child is, or may be, participating in the general education environment;<br />

not less than one special education teacher or special education service<br />

provider of the child;<br />

the CPSE chairperson who is a representative of the district qualified to<br />

provide or supervise the provision of specially-designed instruction to<br />

meet the unique needs of students with disabilities, and who is<br />

knowledgeable about the general education curriculum and about the<br />

availability of the resources of the local educational agency. An individual<br />

who meets these qualifications may also be the same individual appointed<br />

as the special education teacher, the special education provider of the<br />

student or the school psychologist;<br />

the parent of a preschool or elementary school-age child with a disability<br />

who resides in the district or neighboring district, provided that such<br />

parent is not a required member if the parent(s) of the child request that<br />

the additional parent member not participate;<br />

an individual who can interpret the instructional implications of evaluation<br />

results, who may be a member of the team selected from the general or<br />

special education teacher or provider or district representative described<br />

above;<br />

other persons having knowledge or special expertise regarding the child,<br />

including related services personnel as appropriate, as the school district<br />

or the parents shall designate. The determination of knowledge or special<br />

expertise of such person shall be made by the party who invited the<br />

individual to be a member of the CPSE.<br />

for a child in transition from early intervention programs and services, at<br />

the request of the parent, an appropriate professional from the<br />

Department of Health’s Early Intervention Program; and<br />

an appropriately licensed or certified professional from the municipality is<br />

invited but not required for a quorum.<br />
