Sign of the times
Deaf and hearing-impaired residents
can now get borough information
through Contact Islington, thanks to a
new videophone pilot.
Contact Islington is trialling videophone
access with signing call centre Significan’t.
Deaf and hearing-impaired residents can visit
Contact Islington offices on Upper Street, link
to a qualified signer by videophone, who will
translate to Contact Islington staff and relay
the information.
Hearing-impaired customers who can access
videophone elsewhere will be able to link to
the signing call centre directly. The signer will
then call Contact Islington and relay the
conversation real-time.
This pilot will extend to deaf and hearingimpaired
residents what the rest of us take for
granted – accurate and instant information –
in a format that's right for them.
Tackling the housing shortage
Private landlords are helping
provide much needed housing.
In a new scheme initiated by Islington
Council, incentives and support are offered
to private landlords to house people
including those living in temporary
accommodation.
If you are a landlord and would like to
get involved or have an empty property
that could benefit from an empty
properties grant contact Dionne
Maxwell on 020 7527 6073 or email
landlord.enquiries@islington.gov.uk
The tour starts outside the building, and takes
couples through the reception, up the main
stairs, into the wedding room and finally the
council chamber, where the ceremony would
be held.
Each image rotates automatically, and also
lets people zoom in and out, or pan to a
particular area.
