New charge for developers Islington is one of the smallest and yet most densely developed and populated authorities in the country. In order to ensure that the future growth of the borough can be accommodated sustainably, the council is introducing new charge on developers called the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL). Further consultation will take place in the New Year and once in place the charge raise funding for infrastructure and community facilities such as transport, parks, sports, libraries, schools and health facilities. www.islington.gov.uk Get on your bike The council are running free cycle training courses during February half-term. All you need to take part is a bike and a helmet. Three courses are available: Learning To Ride (5-9 years old): for children who've never cycled before Bikeability Level 1 - Off Road Control Skills (7-12): for children that can already cycle Bikeability Level 2 - Introduction to Road Cycling (9-12): for children who can cycle well Training takes place at a number of locations including Elthorne Park, Rosemary Gardens, Castlehaven Community Association Centre and Waterside Youth and Play Project. Cycle training is also available all year round for adults who live, work or study in the borough. It is free and delivered as one-to-one sessions. Free hire of Islington Assembly Hall If you’re a community organisation or charity based in Islington, check out www.islington.gov.uk/assemblyhall in January for details on how to apply to hire the prestigious venue for a maximum of five hours free of charge on a selected date.
