2.4.5 Development Office<br />
Activities <strong>of</strong> the Development Office are divided into four sections, with<br />
overall responsibility for each section resting with the Head <strong>of</strong><br />
Development. The four sections are: Estate Manager, Part-Time, Industrial<br />
Liaison, and International Projects. Each <strong>of</strong> these is<br />
documented below.<br />
Estates Office<br />
Functions<br />
This section is responsible for the planning and procurement <strong>of</strong> new<br />
facilities, together with the maintenance and operation <strong>of</strong> existing<br />
facilities and grounds. This includes cleaning, maintenance, security,<br />
caretaking, and emergency procedures.<br />
Services provided to the public<br />
• A list <strong>of</strong> assets held by the <strong>Institute</strong> (e.g., furniture, equipment, PCs,<br />
etc.)<br />
• Provision <strong>of</strong> strategic guidance and administrative support for the<br />
physical development and maintenance <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Institute</strong>’s campus<br />
and for the management <strong>of</strong> associated facilities and services<br />
• Initiation and management <strong>of</strong> tendering processes, including the<br />
selection and appointment <strong>of</strong> contractors with regard to contracts<br />
relating to building and facilities<br />
• Liaison with and support for the <strong>Institute</strong> in the negotiation,<br />
selection, appointment, and management <strong>of</strong> all services and<br />
facilities which are contracted out<br />
• Preparation and submission <strong>of</strong> planning applications to the planning<br />
authority<br />
• Interaction with the public takes place, furthermore, in the course <strong>of</strong> the<br />
procurement <strong>of</strong> building contracts and services.<br />
