Eddy D'Souza has gone "Down Under" to visit his sister and relatives in Australia. Just before his departure, he developed acute back pain but doctors put him on his feet in 24 hours. Tepasai - Pius Fernandes St John's new academic year 2001 started on a bright note: "Mass of the Holy Spirit" for the students. On 21 January, a "Munda-Manki" meeting was arranged by Fr George. We had a resource person from 'Johar' who spoke of "Gram Sabha and Panchayati Raj". Nearly 64 Munda- Mankis and neighbouring villagers profitted by his inspiring talk. On 27 January, we had the first ever dance, song and Nukad competition arranged by TRTC at Tepasai. The crowd was thrilled, seeing some of the Ho classical dances. Thanks to Fr Jerry of TRTC and his team who planned and executed the programme. This year "Parish Day" on 4 February was celebrated in a grand style with great joy and enthusiasm. Bishop Felix Toppo was our main celebrant. During the Holy Eucharist celebration in which 69 children and adults were confirmed and one couple was married. The OLP Sisters helped out by colourfully decorating the altar and the backdrop which added to the glitter and pomp. Sch Kishore and team led the choir. Deacon Cyril planned and executed the day's programme which ended with a community meal for all the parishioners and guests. On 11 February, the whole Tepasai Jesuit Community went for Cyril's ordination in Lohardaga. Tepasai hostelers displayed their talent by their Ho dance which was much appreciated by the crowd. The Sports Day was on 25 February and Chief Guest was Ms Joba Majhi, a Minister in the Jharkhand State. XIM - Kishore Lugun
Abe went to Anand and Bangalore to attend the Board meetings and Convocations of IRMA, XIME and Carmel College. George Hess attended the annual meeting of the Province Coordinators of Communications held in Kottayam. Eric, after attending Abe's courses in OB-1, is preparing himself to teach OB-1 and managerial communication to the PGPRM students next year. He will be attending a one-week communication course next month at IIM, Ahmedabad. XIM now has an ATM installed by the UTI Bank. The inauguration will be in the first week of March. UTI will also provide internet banking facility to all its customers. The super structure of our new MDP building with 35 double seated rooms, 3 luxury suites and all other common facilities is complete. The whole building will be air-conditioned and all rooms will be wired and provided with 24-hour internet accessibility through the campus network. A recent write up about XIM in the Statesman praises the institute for its initiative in IT infrastructure and commitment to quality education. The annual Convocation will be held on 12 March at 6.00 pm. It will be followed by dinner for the guests. All are cordially invited. XIM-CENDERET has been recently regionalised into the following five regional resource centres covering the whole of Orissa: XIM-CENDERET Northern, Eastern, Western, Southern and Central Orissa Resource Centres. With this regionalisation of CENDERET, we hope to make a qualitative difference in the lives of the poor of Orissa. Already the Western Orissa Resource Centre has done a massive survey of 432 villages in Bolangir district and has come up with a thought provoking report and a moving documentary film about the sick and aged men and women who are facing starvation and death. The findings of this study are quoted by the Indian Express of 23 February, titled "Migration leaves elders at the mercy of death". The centre has already appraised the district administration of the grave situation and also sought intervention of the UN food programme. The other centres too are undertaking similar study. The Senior School block (30 classrooms and an examination hall) of Loyola Bhubaneswar is complete. Work on the Junior School building (33 classrooms) is progressing fast. The roof casting will be done in the second week of March. We are also planning to start the foundation for the library-cum-lab block and the administration-cum-plus 2 building soon. His grace Raphael Cheenath, SVD, the Archbishop of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar, has agreed to bless the School building on 14 March. Classes will begin the next day. Tony S has been here to help out Tony P, the Principal, to get everything ready to start the School in March. Besides 18 full time teachers, Tony P has also recruited part time teachers for music, dance, painting and band. The Kalinga Trade and Travels has agreed to ply 5 brand new RTV buses equipped with mobile phone and other facilities as per the directives given by the recent supreme court judgement. The School has also a brand new Deluxe Tata Sumo. The information technology will be a significant factor in the School to provide IT based quality education to the students. To start with, the School will have a computer lab with a highend server and 25 PCs connected to the LAN. All classrooms are wired and will have internet connection through a state-of-the-art high-tech networking. The Federal Bank Ltd has opened an extension counter at the School for the collection of fees and disbursement of salary. Loyola
