The staff and students of LCE showed heart warming enthusiasm in responding generously at the
blood donation camp organised in the College on 20 March.
A novel approach was initiated by Victor and the faculty to bring alive the curriculum through a
one-act play competition on 27 March. The script writing, direction and the acting on relevant
curricular themes were done by the students themselves. This was a rare occasion when all the
80 students appeared on the stage.
The entrance test for the fresh batch 2002-03 was conducted at Loyola School on 6 April in
which 875 students appeared. Interviews were held on 22 & 23 April.
In the discouraging times of employment opportunities, the students of the College found new
signs of hope when the Atomic Energy Education Trust from Bombay conducted campus
selection on 8 April.
Presently the College final test is in progress and the academic session 2001-02 will end on 30
April. While the Scholastics are following the College routine faithfully, Gilbert stole some time
from his busy schedule to conduct a two-day seminar on "Enhancing Teacher Effectiveness" to
40 teachers at Purulia at the beginning of April. These teachers came from St Xavier's School,
Purulia and Sacred Heart School, Adra. He also helped the management of St Robert's School,
Parsudih, in the recruitment of some teachers.
A two-day orientation programme will be conducted for the academic counselors associated with
IGNOU B Ed programme by the School of Education of IGNOU on 1 & 2 May at LCE.
For Easter, Fr Tony went to Jamshedpur, Staney to Kendrapara, while John stayed at home.
The new academic year 2002-03 began with 900 children from KG-Std VI, and 4 new teachers -
two more teachers will join in June.
The new regent, Valerian Mendonca has taken Staney's place. Both Staney and John were
given a warm send off on 22 April.
The Parents' Orientation Days, for KG and Classes I to VI, were held on 13th and 20th of April,
respectively.
The new academic year has brought in a lot of appreciation from the parents. Loyola is set to
host the first Summer Day Camp for the children. 300 children have registered their names. The
package includes art and craft, snack making, CD viewing, clay modelling, acting, public
speaking, debate, dance, music and field visits. A team of teachers and resource persons will lead
the children to an exciting learning experience.
