Julia and Henry Koschitzky<br />
<strong>The</strong> Koschitzky name is well known in Canada and indeed throughout the<br />
world. Both Henry and Julia are active philanthropists on behalf of world<br />
Jewry and are fiercely dedicated to <strong>Jerusalem</strong> and Israel.<br />
Julia and Henry, married since 1963, are a model of community leadership<br />
in Canada where they have supported Jewish education and social welfare<br />
across the communal spectrum. Julia began her activism as president of<br />
the Parents’ Association of the Associated Hebrew Schools of Toronto,<br />
the community day school that her children attended and ever since, has<br />
held countless positions in the non-profit world including as chair of the<br />
Toronto UJA (United Jewish Appeal) Women’s Division Campaign, officer<br />
of the UJA/Federation of Greater Toronto, president of UIA (United Israel<br />
Appeal)/Federations Canada, member of the Keren Hayesod World Board of<br />
Trustees and a member of the Board of Governors and Executive Committee<br />
at the Jewish Agency for Israel. Julia played a central role in Operation<br />
Exodus, the immigration of Jews from Russia to Israel, chaired the Toronto<br />
celebrations of the fiftieth anniversary of Israeli statehood and chaired the<br />
UJA/Federation’s Israel Advocacy program. Julia is also the immediate past<br />
President of the <strong>Jerusalem</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> of Canada.<br />
Julia and Henry Koschitzky have received too many awards and accolades to<br />
mention, among them are: the Woman of Valour <strong>Award</strong> of Toronto’s UJA<br />
Business and Professional Women’s Division (1990); the Commonwealth<br />
Medal given on the 125th anniversary of Canada’s Confederation (1993);<br />
the <strong>Jerusalem</strong> <strong>Award</strong> of the Canadian Zionist Federation (1994); the<br />
Ben Sadowski <strong>Award</strong> for outstanding dedication to the Toronto Jewish<br />
Community (1997); the Israel Goldstein Prize conferred by the Knesset for
