In January 1999, thirty-three years after the establishment of the <strong>Jerusalem</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong>, the International<br />
Council of the <strong>Foundation</strong> decided to create the <strong>Teddy</strong> <strong>Kollek</strong> <strong>Award</strong>.<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Teddy</strong> <strong>Kollek</strong> <strong>Award</strong> is bestowed on a prominent national or international figure and on leading<br />
donors who have made outstanding contributions to advancing the social, cultural, educational and physical<br />
development of the city of <strong>Jerusalem</strong>.<br />
According to the guidelines established by the <strong>Foundation</strong>’s International Council:<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Teddy</strong> <strong>Kollek</strong> <strong>Award</strong> is granted to persons who have excelled in their support of an open, tolerant and<br />
modern <strong>Jerusalem</strong> which embraces residents and visitors of all religious, national and ethnic backgrounds<br />
and seeks to ensure their personal and communal welfare.<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Teddy</strong> <strong>Kollek</strong> <strong>Award</strong> is granted to persons who believe in the values and principles espoused by<br />
<strong>Teddy</strong> <strong>Kollek</strong> and have worked to advance them through the <strong>Jerusalem</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong>. <strong>The</strong>se values include<br />
community activism, respect for and understanding of the needs of all populations and creation of true<br />
partnership between the State of Israel and the Diaspora communities.<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Teddy</strong> <strong>Kollek</strong> <strong>Award</strong> is granted to persons who strive to strengthen <strong>Jerusalem</strong>’s status as the capital of<br />
the State of Israel, a universal spiritual center for believers of all faiths, and a symbol of dialogue, understanding<br />
and brotherhood.
