Appendix 13 Overseas visits • In October 2010, the Commission’s Chief Executive, Mr Ernest Schmatt PSM, in his capacity as a member of the Secretariat of the Asia Pacific Judicial Reform Forum Secretariat, visited Beijing to participate in the Fourth Round Table Meeting of the Forum. The meeting was attended by 105 delegates from 24 countries from the Asia Pacific Region. The theme of the meeting was “Using Technology to Improve Court Performance”. • In May 2011, the Commission’s Chief Executive, Mr Ernest Schmatt PSM and Director, Information Management and Corporate Services, Mr Murali Sagi PSM visited Sri Lanka to participate in the South Asian Judges’ Forum in Colombo and share expertise on enhancing judicial education programs and computerised case management systems. All costs were covered by the Commonwealth Secretariat, London as event organisers. • In June 2011, the Commission’s Chief Executive, Mr Ernest Schmatt PSM, travelled to Beijing to participate in the International Forum on Judicial Training hosted by the National Judges’ College of China. The Forum was based on a Co-operation Agreement between the College, the European Union and the United Nations Development Program. It provided an opportunity to exchange information about developments in judicial education in both civil and common law jurisdictions. Appendix 14 Exchange of information The Commission actively seeks to exchange information with other government agencies, academic institutions and individuals. Since its establishment, the Commission has built strong links with similar organisations in other countries in order to share knowledge and experience, particularly in the areas of judicial education and criminological research. This has proved to be a most valuable network and, as a result, the Commission now holds a wealth of information concerning these subjects.
