CAMBRIDGE CONSULTATION
The Cambridge project team knew
exactly how to take the first step in
bringing JCDA’s ideas to life, providing all
the tools needed for proper architectural
design review and presentation; including
samples, education on available mesh and
attachment system options and budgetary
cost estimates. Through this process, JCDA
was able to determine that Cambridge’s
Mid-Balance and Pellican mesh patterns
were ideally suited to achieve the aesthetic
and light filtering objectives of Light Veil.

Cambridge worked closely with James
Carpenter Design Associates to explore the
most appropriate metal mesh patterns and
attachment hardware systems that would
best achieve the firm’s vision.
“We used two different scales of mesh,
which became a design tool,” says
McClellan. “We placed long ribbons of
smaller scale stainless mesh from the top
of the structure all the way down to the
bottom. Then, on the upper portion of the
structure, we used the larger scale stainless
mesh that reflects much more sunlight.
When we overlap the two, you get a sense
of depth between the two patterns. And
even though the larger weave is behind
the smaller, as it reflects so much more
sunshine, it transforms the surface into
a diaphanous veil.”
