The couple opted <strong>for</strong> a quirky townhouse complete with elevator,<br />

solarium, and <strong>for</strong>mal dining room, the grand residence of an older<br />

couple with no children. On the advice of a friend, Weinstein went to<br />

see Miles at his NoHo townhouse. “As soon as I met Miles, I loved<br />

him,” she says. “He’s so personable, and I knew instantly that we have<br />

virtually the same aesthetic. I love painted wood floors; he had painted<br />

wood floors. I love animal prints and pony-skin and chinoiserie; he<br />

had it all.”<br />

But as much as Weinstein wanted a house with character, she didn’t<br />

want a traditional interior. “I don’t believe in saving rooms <strong>for</strong> special<br />

occasions,” she says. For Miles, the trick was reworking the old<br />

fashioned way the house had functioned <strong>for</strong> its previous owners while<br />

keeping its great bones.<br />

For example, the garden level was completely rethought: the <strong>for</strong>mal<br />

dining room, with its ruched-fabric ceiling, and the industrial catering<br />

kitchen both got the heave-ho; in their stead is a mudroom <strong>for</strong> coats<br />

and bikes, a breakfast nook with a rich leather banquette, a warm, kid<br />

friendly kitchen and a dual family/dining room painted a deep red<br />

that’s both elegant and relaxed.<br />

The upstairs rooms were likewise done up in old-world fabrics and<br />

finishes that convey both glamour and fun, including Steve’s ►<br />
