hollows for nesting.
E1 - Favours intertidal flats of
inlets and bays, open
beaches and sandbanks,
foraging for molluscs, worms,
crabs and small fish, on
exposed sand, mud and rock,
at low tide. Nests are shallow
scrapes in the sand above the
high tide mark, mainly on
coastal estuarine beaches,
but occasionally in saltmarsh
or grassy areas.
