As with all correspondence from our viewers, I set the letter aside to read in a quiet moment, picturing the writer at her desk: lovely. In my four years at Knowledge, I’ve discovered that those who know us love us, but those who love us may not necessarily know us. So I’ve embarked on an eighteenmonth long speaking tour of the province, visiting communities large and small, to tell the story of why British Columbians deserve Knowledge Network as their public broadcaster. And everywhere I’ve travelled so far, I’ve encountered loyal Partners like Diana. My first engagement was the Probus Club in Sidney. I was hoping to sign up new donors but it turned out that most of the attendees already were Partners. The next stop was Duncan and the Cowichan Valley Chambers of Commerce. There were some enthusiastic Partners in the room, but most of the others were unaware that Knowledge is their public broadcaster, even though they were regular viewers. In Kamloops, we held 14 events in 5 days, including a cinema salon for students and faculty at Thompson Rivers University; a speech for the business community; introducing a film at the Kamloops Film Festival; a roundtable with the region’s filmmakers; and taking in a Kamloops Blazers hockey game with a handful of community leaders. At a special event for longtime Partners, I got to meet just about everyone, and was reminded again of the generosity of our supporters. Our Partners certainly know and love us, but we need to do a better job of telling our story to everyone else. So if you think your local community group, Chamber of Commerce, college or university, or speaker’s club might be interested in hearing from Knowledge Network, please contact Audience Relations. I’m committed to visiting every corner of BC, and to meeting our Partners. Because we couldn’t imagine life without you.
