Math shows add up to fun
According to the “rule of
thumb”, a string wrapped
twice around the thumb
is equal in length to one
wrapped around the wrist.
Cool stuff, and the kind of
thing children can learn about
each day on Knowledge Kids.
We carefully select the
very best in children’s television
– shows that are fun and
engaging and foster kids’ natural
enthusiasm for learning. In
two of our newest programs,
the focus is on math.
The Prime Radicals,
targeted at school-age kids, is
a live-action series based on
two cousins and their wacky
Uncle Norm, who embark on
crazy adventures that always
end up - somehow - being
related to math. Humorous
scenarios show kids how
we use math for everything
- from composing music,
to cooking, to renovating a
clubhouse, and much more.
(Like far-out facts about the
human body.)
For preschoolers, there’s
Numberjacks, an animated
series about ten small superhero
numbers: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,
6, 7, 8, and 9. They go about
their everyday lives inside
their sofa until a call comes
in from a child Agent. The
Meanies are causing trouble
again! Using math, problem
solving and thinking skills, the
Numberjacks have to work
out how to put things right
and save the day.
Both shows combine great
stories with humour to make
math fun. All the while, kids
are developing skills that are
the foundation for learning
math in school, like counting,
sequencing, patterns,
matching and basic arithmetic
concepts. The idea is to create
a positive attitude towards
math – one that will hopefully
last a lifetime.
