Math shows add up to fun<br />

According to the “rule of<br />

thumb”, a string wrapped<br />

twice around the thumb<br />

is equal in length to one<br />

wrapped around the wrist.<br />

Cool stuff, and the kind of<br />

thing children can learn about<br />

each day on <strong>Knowledge</strong> Kids.<br />

We carefully select the<br />

very best in children’s television<br />

– shows that are fun and<br />

engaging and foster kids’ natural<br />

enthusiasm for learning. In<br />

two of our newest programs,<br />

the focus is on math.<br />

The Prime Radicals,<br />

targeted at school-age kids, is<br />

a live-action series based on<br />

two cousins and their wacky<br />

Uncle Norm, who embark on<br />

crazy adventures that always<br />

end up - somehow - being<br />

related to math. Humorous<br />

scenarios show kids how<br />

we use math for everything<br />

- from composing music,<br />

to cooking, to renovating a<br />

clubhouse, and much more.<br />

(Like far-out facts about the<br />

human body.)<br />

For preschoolers, there’s<br />

Numberjacks, an animated<br />

series about ten small superhero<br />

numbers: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,<br />

6, 7, 8, and 9. They go about<br />

their everyday lives inside<br />

their sofa until a call comes<br />

in from a child Agent. The<br />

Meanies are causing trouble<br />

again! Using math, problem<br />

solving and thinking skills, the<br />

Numberjacks have to work<br />

out how to put things right<br />

and save the day.<br />

Both shows combine great<br />

stories with humour to make<br />

math fun. All the while, kids<br />

are developing skills that are<br />

the foundation for learning<br />

math in school, like counting,<br />

sequencing, patterns,<br />

matching and basic arithmetic<br />

concepts. The idea is to create<br />

a positive attitude towards<br />

math – one that will hopefully<br />

last a lifetime.<br />
